it sounds like a rough metal to metal ticking sound...it always starts and the car seems to be running fine but it is just a very out of the ordinary sound and i have no idea what it is....any suggestions??????
well open your hood and see where its coming from, it could just be a worn belt. im not sure what the valve ticking sounds like when u f*ck em over. . but i think that would effect your performance so. . .

with a motor like yours, i'm surprised you havent even thought of doing a valve adjustment. jun3's with bumped compression are no joke. you need to monitor that crap constantly and do a valve adjustment at LEAST every 5k miles to be safe. do that and see if the ticking goes away.

i had a similar metal on metal noise in my old civic ex, sohc vtec baby, lol, but it ended up i spun a berring on the crank and the piston was almost contacting the head, the symptoms were a flickering oil light, drop in rpms, it would stall and made an ocassional pinging noise, not to scare ya, just my .02.
my car also ticks. i can hear it at idle, and when my car is moving you can still hear it, and it speeds up. i always thought getting a valve adjustment would fix this. i dont know if i am losing power from this, or if it just makes a ticking noise. how does one do a valve adjustment? can someone do it themself or is it necessary to have a shop do it? sorry if that doenst make sense..

well i found out the loopy idle was from the timing belt and i got that tightened up and its good to go now....and i got a different starter and it took care of the grinding sound and now there is just an 1 raspy metal to metal sound(only when it is turning over)car runs fine once its actually started...and i checked out the valves and they're ok...i also came out to my car today and it was completely dead(battery had zero fluids) fixed the fluids and it barely got started up...came out later that same day..car was completely dead again(fluids full)..had to get a jump and car barely started....went and got battery checked out and it is ok....so now i am officially lost as to what it is???????HELP ME OUT GUYS

oil pressure is good when it gets running and i haven't inspected the bearings yet but wouldn't the car run like **** once it got going if it was the bearings?

You can do them yourself just make sure you have a clue what you're doing and have a helms handy (not haynes or chiltons). If you're not a do-it-yourselfer then bring it to the dealership. I think they charge like 80-90 for it.

My CRX w/D15 made a similar sound at cranking after overheating.
It went on for a couple of months like that, I didn't worry till one day the water pump blew apart. Now whenever I start it, it sprays coolant all over the bottom of the engine bay. haha

a car can run perfectly fine with a rod knock. rock knock can be minor and still hear it and the car drive like normal. it will eventually get worse over time and eventually s*it metal in your engine if thats the problem...
