is 01 gsxr 600 a great bike to start with?
Respect the bike, and you'll be fine. My suggestion would be to get some frame sliders...sooner or later you'll need 'em. And dont' forget to save some moolah for PROPER gear.
Good luck!

who the hell has been suggesting an f4i for a newbie? And the gsxr600 would be just about as bad as the f4i for a new rider. Maybe a bit better for the taller rider... softer seat also.
Just to let ya know my boy started on an F4i and learned both how to carve corners and how to stunt on that bike, never downed it all. Just take your time on either bike and youll be fine.

What he said.......emphasis on "respect the bike" because the minute you don't, your date with the pavement starts.

IMO, it mostely depends on the rider him/herself. But everyone is right, this bike is nothing to play with. Whoever suggests a GSXR for a 1st bike isnt right, but it was my first bike. It will be a year in Sept. that I have it, and I have always respected the power, and have gotten used to it. Took me a good 6 months too.

yea i jus got a 2003 gsxr-r600 2 weeks ago. i think its a great bike..im just taking things slow...get whatever fits you best not what people tell you to get
My first bike was a black and yellow 01 gixxer 600
that I bought in April of 2001. It seemed like a good bike to start out on at the time. I've moved on to something better (in my opinion) but the gixxer is one helluva bike. I still think it has the most comfortable seating position of all the 600's plus it comes stock with a steering dampner that makes a noticeable difference when riding. Go for it I say, just respect the damn thing mang!!
