Today when i was working on my brakes, i noticed the fool before me, half assed painted my exhaust. My exhaust is really a chrome finish, and he used some cheap type of paint, that was starting to come off. Now I just stripped it all to the chrome finish using aircraft remover stuff, and was wondering, .... ARE there any advantages to painting an exhaust black with high temp paint? Besides getting rid of the bling, does it do anything for corrosion, etc? Any info would be great, im debating whether to repaint or not. Thanks!
Well... I just got my new Sedan... 89 LX... and its gold... Im going repaint it gold and go with the black wheels... so a nice black exhaust would match it nicely.
Actually, you can use hi-temp paint to your advantage, keeping the heat inside the exhaust piping - and at the same time giving you a little more protection from debris. Even the best exhaust loves to rust - the more you do to prevent that, the better.
FYI - don't primer - the hi-temp paint will flake off. Instead, you can lightly scuff the surface then just clean with Simple Green, etc. before painting
