h22 in a crx?
I wanted to put a 99-00 h22a in my 89 crx si. but have not found any one that has done one before and want to know if anyone thinks it is at all possible and if it is worth the trouble? The thing is i can get a h22 for about $1500. Any input would be appreciated.
Its a heavy engine made for a heavy car, upsets the near perfect 50/50 weight distrubition of a crx, turns your handling into crap, and to be truthful I've haven't seen any h-series mounts for a crx(not that I've really searched for them).
crx.honda-perf.org discusses it in their 101 motor article, describing it as a 1/4 mile monster and not much else.

Well, the CRX does not have a 50/50 weight distribution to begin with.
I have seen H22's in CRXs and it looks out of place.
You have to bang the firewall to make room, modify the front crossmember, it goes on and on. About handling, it's not as bad as some people might think.
I persoanlly think that a B20 is the biggest motor you should put on a CRX.
Get a late model B20 and just drop it in.
You will be amazed at how much fun a CRX becomes with 2.0 litters of displacement. And the nice thing about it, if you want to make more power later , just get a B16 head and do a B20VTEC.
Don't get fooled by the low cost of the H22, by the time you are done making custom mounts, axles, wiring, fitting, hydro clutch convertion, etc, you could have easily spent as much as a GSR swap, if not more.

There are some that dont think its a waste of time and money. An h22 has alot of things n/a going for it, and can be really really fast. I happen to be almost complete with an h22 swap into a 91 Crx Dx.
Sure I spent alot of money on fabrication and axles and motor mounts and what not..but I feel that when I am driving that beast down the 1320.....it would be worth the cost and wait. My Rex is gonna be street legal as well, and lets just say...its a sleeper.
You can see it in the crx/h22 woo wooo thread on http://www.collectiveracing.net
