ok the above picture says 96. so i've heard the 96 means that the motor is in a 97 car? the motor year is always one year before the year of the chassis?

The motor is made before the car is unless its a late year model then its made the same year.
(My JDM ITR head says '95 but it was in a 96 JDM ITR for the spring '96 when it first came out).

Good question, cause all I know about is how to identify the year of the head.

Yup, why do you think a lot of shady people restamp the block! I think they look up the engine block VIN to determine what year it is. If they only check the head, then we just found a way to pass a ref inspection for registration, but I doubt it.

Uh you look up the VIN on CARFAX and it'll tell you which car it came from.

nope, the H has "dials" that point to some numbers...like little clocks sorta.
the first "dial" should point to 9, and the second will corespond with the year of your motor.
Mine points to 9, and then 1== 91 motor, came in a 92 car. Kinda cool because my accord is a 91. Kinda not cool though b/c its so old.
