you sir ar ignorant. car sales are based on demand. if everyone else has a demand for other cars (ie: the mustang) then why would honda continue to hurts their profit by making a car that doesnt even sell enough.
just plain and simple. the prelude is a NICE car, but its just too expensive for what it has. people would rather buy a cheap mustang or even a slower gsr.

They do...
If you look at the coupe market in late 90' you'll see that mustang beat prelude many times in sales... USDM is the most important market for Honda cars and the sales analysis of H/A cars on this market have huge impact on availability of their models.
So they chose not to continue prelude because of cost, low sales etc...
Heh. I even found that ford sold more mustangs through May,2003 than honda ever sold preludes from 1997
You can watch prelude sales here... They fall from the very first year of production (I mean 5gen)...

P.S> The same story we have with Acura CL. The production of this car is also finished as Honda/Acura officially stated. We live in a competition reality as you may notice...

nice chart. as i said before. sales werent cutting it. would you mass produce a car to only sell 9 thousand of them???? you know honda doesnt just make 10 thousand cars.... compare the preludes numbers to any other honda car....

plain and simple the prelude could not compete with the other sports car in it's time. (not on performance) overall, for the price and "what the consumer would get, people decided not to purchase it.
if they were to reintroduce it today i think it would sell well and be very sucessful. more people are into imports then they were back then and think of how much more sporty they are trying to make cars today.

not trying to be rude. I think the majority of cars sales beat the preludes. But usually people that are in the market for cars wouldnt be looking at a prelude one minute and a mustang the next they are nothing alike.
The 5th gen didnt cut it . It didnt bring anything new and exiting to the table vs the 4th gen. And the price was way to high , if they made the car 240 hp then i think it would be more attractive. The 5th gen was more of a big upscale sport compact and people didnt buy it.
That's was my impression... Truly speaking I don't like 5gens (not to offend anyone) I was in love in 3gen... And when they said that 5gen is a continuity of 3gen I was like WTF they're talking about
They were pricey, not so sporty as 4gens, only a little modified engine... No chance for a market success... Sorry to say so...
And customers confirmed that. That's all, finito, good bye... Let Accord Coupe survive a t least...
