Default To rice or not to rice that is the question?

I was just wondering why people think body kits are rice. Yes I agree that there are many ugly f&*(ing kits out there ok they all are but a couple. But anyway I own a cwest body kit and it is fiberglass and I guarantee it weighs less than a stock urethane kit. The definition of rice is functionless nuff said. But my kit does serve a purpose its lighter than stock. Oh yeah and the reason I have a kit is because I bought my car wrecked and all that stuff was gone. Just need some opinions to prove a point to a friend and meybe to get flamed but shoot ya'll.

I think the amount of rice you can put on your car is directly related to how fast you are... if you have the go to back up the show, then you are not "rice".

if you run better then like 14.0, you can put on a 50 foot spoiler for all anyone cares...

I think most people say its rice because most kits you see dont flow well with the lines of the car.

Yeah rice is non-functional and a body kit isnt going to make you faster or help perfomance wise, yeah the kit you bought may be lighter than the stock bumpers, but is it going to hold up as well as the stock bumpers do?

But every person has his/her own style. Some people want speed and dont care about anything cosmetic wise, some people dont care about speed and only want cosmetics.

It all goes based on what the person likes.

Edit.. I think this is in the wrong forum, appearance maybe.

some kits are for styles and some kits are for aerodynamics. but some of the kits are really stupid---no style and no aerodynamic. i hated fiberglass kits though... if i m gonna get a kit, it has to be urethane or carbon fiber(if i can afford).

ppl say its rice cuz it doesnt make u go any faster, i.e. motor parts, but i think some are kewl, if its not too crazy. it gives you a sense of origionality. i chose to spend my money on a 99 si front for my 96 civic. i could have easily bought a full kit, but i like the way my 99 front looks, so i got it. for bodykits

I personally just don't like them... I don't much care if someone has one or not... I've seen a COUPLE of cars with kits that I thought looked good but on the majority I have to say imo they're ugly and cheap looking no matter how expensive they and they're accompaniing paint jobs are... they look to "toyish" for me..

Not busting ***** just sharing my opinion...

But also I wouldn't care what the outcome of this thread is... if you like it do it.

I guess, the bottom line is get what you like. Who cares what people think.
However, I must say there are many people out there with very poor taste in my opinion..

I have to agree somewhat with the ^^^^^ statement, and the guy that said bodykits get a bad name because of all the people that put on imcomplete or crap worksmanship body kits..... The terms "rice" and "jdm" are both used wrong, alot of people car that are called "RICE" still look good and use top of the line parts and companys, but they want to show some creativity, im all for that..... "rice" is not what u have i think its the quality of parts and workmanship and balance of ur car is poor, like u just threw it together without thinking bout it........... bigger rims, kits, custom interiors, stereos are not rice just creativity and style

and.....just because ur car has a few clean parts or some black rims doesnt mean its "jdm" or "jdm style"...thats crap, unless 90 percent of ur car is parts from honda japan or japanese aftermarket performance companies, then i dont respect it..... u just have a very subtle car, thats more towards the performance side.....

so with all that said, i just say do what u want, **** the titles and build ur car to ur liking and try to use quality parts and quality worksmanship... in the end its ur money, and u have to drive it everyday so follow ur heart
