Default Help me build an H22 (JDM)

OK guys...turns out that I am going to be getting rid of the Celica and making the del Sol my one and only car. I really want to get an JDM H22 in the car, and this IS the engine I want to put in, so please, no one come in this thread and try and convince me that a B series engine is easier to install and will be better because I have my mind made up about this.

But here is the catch, I know virtually nothing about where I can get some mods for my engine. The plan is to amass most of the engine mods, then get the engine, and then put them all in the car at the same time, saving me some time and money when it comes to labor. Anyways...I am looking for a little guidance as to what kind of setup I should go with. Keep in mind that I want to stay NA and that I really could care less if the car won't perform well in autocross because I'll never run it in autocross, drag only (awaiting flames for this). This is what I have so far, but I need help on deciding on the brands for these parts and where I should get them:

JDM H22a (of course)
CAI (can this be done on a hybrid? Also what brand is best?)
custom exhaust so no worries there any decent exhaust place will do
header (this is tricky for me since I am only familiar with companies that do Toyotas)
cams (I would like to get some that won't require me to upgrade the valves and such)

So if you guys could be so kind as to help me build a decent, reliable engine for straight line speed, I would really appreciate it. Feel free to add in any other parts that you think will give me some decent gains for the money, but right now I am thinking that when I put the engine in the car, intake, exhaust, header and possibly cams will make for a really nice engine to start with. Thanks.

build internals. unfortunatly, there arnt as many mods available for an h-series as there are for b-series motors. all the good name brand places make the h-series building kits.
why dont you start off by telling all of us about how much money your willing to spend. because half the people in the forum will tell you.... you can do anything with the right money.

That's really hard to say because I don't really know how much I am going to end up spending for the actual motor and the swap, plus the other stuff I will need like the axles and motor mounts. Some people say it won't cost that much, others tell me it will cost me an arm and a leg, so if someone could give me a good estimate how much money total I would end up spending just getting the engine in there I would really appreciate it, but no one can seem to give me a straight answer on it.

I am thinking of spending around $5k (US) total on this, maybe more, maybe less but that's a good estimate considering I am making a good amount of money off of my job now.

complete swap including labor will run you about 4k. thats not going to include the mounts...those will run another 500. you left with roughly 500 to spend. unfortunatly, like i said before, there arnt as many mods for the h-series motors as there are for b-series. so... a nice header is going to cost you 300+. you might have enough for a decent name brand CAI, but i doubt it.

Talk to boosted97lude. He had the del sol, the mounts, and the plan to do exactly what you are talking about.

He has probably done all the research you'll need.

Thanks for the ballpark figure...where can I find out about these kits that supposedly build the internals?

i bought the HASport mount kits for mine, did some research in the Hybrid forum about putting an H22 in an EG, it's the same thing, i was just gonna drop in a stock USDM H22A4, and eventually build it for boost, the swap itself is really no different than what poison has (H22 EG)

Thanks for the info Boosted97Lude...and yes, stinger, the engine is going to stay NA, no boost (and that includes N2O).

Anyways, I took a look at the Skunk2 website and the Crower website and it seems that Crower doesn't make as much stuff as Skunk2 (I couldn't find a camshaft they make for the H22), so I think it would probably be best to go with all Skunk2 products.

So...can anyone here tell me which stuff I should look into buying from Skunk2 to make a nice all-motor streetable engine? There are so many kinds...I'm lost.

What exactly do you mean by what I am going to want to do? I want something that can function as a daily driver, yet be as competitive as possible at the drag strip.

I think this may be the setup I go with:

Skunk2 Stage II camshaft
Skunk2 Standard Intake & Exhaust Valves
Skunk2 Titanium Retainers
Skunk2 Valve springs

The question though is will this be safe on a JDM engine and will it work even though the engine is JDM? Also...will I be able to rev higher and if so...what ECU program am I going to have to install on the car?

Well, I have heard some bad things about the Hondata ECU's...one is that on some cars, it completely takes off the rev limiter. I don't know how high I will be revving if I do the mods above, and if someone could tell me I would really appreciate it...but I really think a rev limiter is something that I would like on the car for safety purposes.

with hondata. you can have the revlimiter removed/moved back/stock.
with your valvetrain. i wouldn't rev past 8500rpms.
