HIDs in Stanley JDM Civic headlights...(long as hell, MTK help me out)
OK, so I bought my kit from Autolamps-Online, and it is by far the best investment, and mod that I have done. I originally put them in a set of 00 EJ/EK stock housings (much glare, yet noticeable cut-off line) That lasted about 4 months, then I swapped my stocks for a pair of black painted stocks (less glare, same cut-off, housings were f'd up from Fisher-Price "my first headlight baking kit")...
So the next logical step, I thought, was to get a set of black housing aftermarkets that were sealed good, but I quickly found out that OEM optics in the housings are far better than this shitty aftermarket stuff (no cut-off NONE!, and glare like my hood is on fire) So I ordered the last possible step today, a set of real Stanley JDMs, with city lights and all that jazz...
I know the CTR lights have no "hood" that goes over the bulb or capsule itself, but my Autolamps kit came with the beam corrector that gives a good cutoff, and keeps the glare from coming from the bottom of the light, and makes the light stay white (4100k
) instead of yellow tinged...
I guess my question is has anybody else had the same experience as me, as I am wanting to know, and my CTRs won't be in till Monday...also, the aftermarket black housing would probably work good for halogens, but I think the HIDs are a little more dependant on the housing for aiming and such...I know Mugen76 (?) had a set in his red EK w/ CTR lights and said they had tremendous glare, but I don't think he had the shield...
edit: w00t 711 posts, today is my lucky day!

if you have the glare shield on the bulb from autolamps-online you wont have to worry about the top cover.. all the shield does is block the light from hitting the bright spots on the reflector.. i just made an H4 shield post the other day and the civic pictured has USDM stock headlights with the bulb covers removed, custom shields, and 4100K philips HID.. the cutoff is perfect and there is no glare whatsoever.. i will be making a set of shields for my friends CTR headlights soon.. you will definately love the way the CTR's light up the ground with your HID kit.. u have nothing to worry about.
really? so CTR headlights with HID's lite up good? just as long as there is a reflector shield on the HID's ?
once again, you are a gentleman and a scholar MTK, and I sure appreciate the help...I'll get some pics up when I've got them in..

yes they do.. all the japanese and european versions of headlights ive seen usually have more foreground light so there is more of an even spread where the USDM headlights usually have more of a scattered, sloppy beam..

I saw your post w/ the homemade adapters, and wow! they really keep all the light in the top of the lens
(I'll bet they don't look as good as caspers though
