gap in cam plates
when cam plates are on the cam caps and bolted down, should there be some gap between the two? i noticed when i installed mine the plates are not flat on the caps but is pitched up a bit on the mating surface between the two.

Make sure the arrows on the center of the caps are pointing towards the front of the motor.
If you put them in upside down, the dowel pins won't go into the cam caps correctly.
