Cracked CV boots
I got a coupon for a 9.99 dealer oil change so I went in and got an oil change. During the oil change they noticed that all four of my CV boots are cracked and recommand that I get it changed as soon as possible. Is it that important?
I was just in the dealer a month ago for the 90K service and timing belt change...etc all that stuff and this wasn't mentioned... Weird...
Anyways, it'll cost around $450 to get all of it changed. Just need some advice/comments.
Thanks,

the best thing to do would to be pull the axles out and replace them. you can always change the boots but you never know how long they have been cracked.....and it will cost you the same either way as rebooting CV joints is labor intensive.......
If i were you, i'd replace all the CV joint/axles...i jus replaced my front 2 and they were 69.99 each after i gave them back my old ones. If you dont replaced them now, you'll have to replaced them later--> that is after they bust open and all the gunk comes out of it hehe
Hmmm.....sounds fishy to me. Did they show you the boots? If not, the first thing I'd do is climb under there yourself and see if all 4 really are cracked. I'm no expert, but very very rarely have I ever heard of inner boots breaking, since they don't do sharp turns like the outers do (unless of course you're offroading or something, lol).
I've had to replace both outer boots on mine once since the axles were installed 135k miles ago (damn rebuilt axles are already clicking again
), but the inners have never been touched, and are still perfect. 3rd gens were notorious for CV boots breaking, too.
Maybe I'm just a lil too paranoid sometimes, but for that low of mileage, all 4 boots being broken at the same time just doesn't sound right. I'd check it out yourself to make sure.

Come to think of it I think I only saw the two front boots... But I usually take turns at around 25~30 mph; does that have any effect on the two inner CV boots? And I also spun out taking a big *** 90 degree turn/curve on a country road going at about 90mph before (and went through the only barb wire section that was down and not a scratch on my car
) but that was over a year ago... Think I'm gonna back my car up the Rhino ramp and check the two rear boots.
