Default b16a2 using ALOT of oil, no leaks or smoke, driven hard. to worry, or not to worry?!

using at least a pint of oil a month, probably alot more and im doin less than 1k miles a month. no sign of smoke or any leaks (tho there was a bit on the bonnet above the v-tec solonoid but no way enough). engine has definitely done less than 80K miles but i usually take it to the redline every gear change(i work shifts, great for clear roads!!). should i expect to put this much oil in one of these engines driven like this or is summat wrong sumwhere?

Dunno, maybe it's slowly burning oil somehow? What weight are you using?

i say try and rev it up in your garage, maybe it leaks only under pressure. could be burning it because u take it up so high every time, u burn twice as much oil when u go high like that

Something's definitely wrong. Mine sees 7k+ pretty much every time I take it out, and I drive 7 days a week. My oil hasn't gone down by any noticeable amount since my last oilchange (2k miles ago).

First idea: Put a filter inline between the valvecover breather tube and the intake manifold. See how much oil you're catching.

i have a symiler oil consumption as well, i had to put a pint and a half, in like a couple weeks ago to bring it back up to par, i think, im not sure so dont quote me but i would imagine that vtec eats some of your oil because it does use oil pressure to up the cam timing and if your cam is spining faster it would increase heat and wear on your oil and probably eat some of your oil also your engine may have some internal wear on your piston rings from the previous owner, they may not of changed the fluids regularly and it may have somthing to do with that, if theres no smoke though its probably not the internals, you might try driving "normal" a few days and see if your oil stays level just some suggestions i know how hard it is not race gay **** but good luck hope some of that crap helps

yea, thanks everyone, at least i know to keep an eye out for any signs now.
im using 5-50 (i know its a bit thin but its real high quality oil and i change often). dont think theres much cance of me driving it easy, ive tried before and it just dont work. it wasn't that well looked after, the brakes were shot the oil was black and the filter was rusty! but iv'e inspected some of the internals and they look brand new, not even any sludge in the oil pan!? Im worried because i over-heated it once because of a split radiator hose. theres no external oil on the engine, i looked today.

new rings time???
