thats pretty damn sweet, would make a good starter I think....how common are they and how well do they perform (i guess in terms of a 250 ninja or other smaller cc bike)?

That what my first bike was, it was a great bike. If i could find my old one i'd buy it back just because it was a fun bike.

2 grand is reasonable I think. There are a few CB-1'saround San Francisco, but they are still very rare. Only made for two years as a modern version of the 400 four. Not very many were sold initially because most americans think if it's not a huge hog it's not a good bike. I've always loved them though. Actually there are quite a few parts on that bike that are common my Hawk GT as well. Mmmm my dream 1988 honda line up: Nt650, Cb-1, and a GB500. I hondas!

very nice! so the riding position is pretty similar to the rest of the CBR family? is that a stock headlight on there?

can't wait to take my CA CC Rider's class next month sometime.

The can would be an overflow catchcan. And those would be two different bikes

I will have you know that GB500s are a one year import, and that year was 1989. You loose!
What a fantastic bike though.

LOL, you are right my friend - GB500 was not imported in 1988, but 1989 and I believe 1990 as well. My reference is:
http://www.thumperpage.com/articles/gb-500faq.html
Either way though it is a truly beautiful bike. I am suprised and very happy that anyone on this board even knows what it is - good eye!
You get a for being cool!

I hope you are referring to it as an interesting looking overflow tank and not what I think you are.
