AEM intake gone BAD.
Ok, so this isnt the usual story you hear when you hear about a AEM intake going bad. Most people post about water beeing sucked up etc etc etc. My problem i never read about or witnessed.
About a week ago i went up to the local drag strip to get a few runs in. First run was decent but every run after that just was pretty bad. I thought maybe it was just me cause it was my first time at the track and i needed improvement. So, anyways i went home that night not thinking anything about it.
Yesterday i pop my hood cause my friend wanted to see my HID's. He was like you know you have a hole the size of a golf ball on your intake, right? I was like umm no what are you talking about. I guess the clip that holds the intake down cracked off the intake leaving a big hole. Talk about some cheap welding. I've only had it on the car for about 3-4 months and only been to the track once. The intake was also the exact model for my car.
Just wondering if anyone has heard of this problem or experienced this problem.

I was going to say you didn't put on that rubber shock mount, but it looks like you did. Actually, the same thing happened to my AEM. Good luck dealing with them. They'll make you buy another one, send them yours (at your expense), and then MAYBE you'll get some money back (probably not though). Just buy a used one in classifieds.
used to see it all the time.
it usually happens when the rubber bushings supplied with the kit aren't installed.
so when the engine torques, and the intake is bolted right there with no movement...snap.
but your's is there...soooo?
you could always call aem and try to warranty it.

That's what they say but trust me, they won't do it.

Nah, its going to be replaced with a Turbo soon. I guess the stock one is going back on for a few months.

that sounds like a better plan to me, i've never been a big AEM fan so i'm bias.

just curious if any of your motor mounts are bad? that might cause the engine to flex a bit more and cause that but other than that there should be no reason for that to happen

I just looked at how you mounted it. Are you sure you mounted it correctly?
If i'm not mistaken, the braket goes above the soft mount, not between the SM and the engine bay. Otherwise there's really no point to the soft mount..

Obvious mistake. This is like wearing your underwear after you put on your pants.

It happened to me, same spot and everything. Call up AEM, tell them your situation. He then asked me to take some pics for him. I did, he then called me back asking me to send the intake to him, he'll then decide whether or not if it was a AEM problem or your installation. A few days later I called him to see whats my options. He then told me that they will be sending out a new one for me. They did, got it a few days later. All in all I was pleased with the service. Didn't take more then 3 weeks total. Oh well. But I got a brand new intake out of it.

Wow. You got lucky. When I called, the guy went in to detail about how they make intakes, and told me that there was no possible way that it was their mistake. He was saying things like "do you have any idea what kind of machines these things are made on? It's error free." Oh well. Mine was just a small crack. Nothing a little JB Weld couldn't fix. At least 'till I get an Icebox.
