enclosed trailer pricing.? best source?
I would need a fairly small trailer (car is less than 15' long). Anyone have a great source. I searched "enclosed trailer" and found nothing.
Thanks in advance,

I have been looking at the Haulmark Thrifty enclosed trailer. The best price that I have seen is about $4G's FOB factory, and it was a small ad in the back of Grassroots.
A guy I know has one, and I think it is pretty nice inside and out. He has added on a tire rack to the inside made from Boeing Surplus aluminum extrusion, and cabinets are going in up front.

4k isn't too bad for a enclosed trailer. I was looking at http://www.aluminumtrailer.com yesterday and their stuff is more expensive. I'm *this close* to selling Mrs. Johng on the idea of going with a bigger SUV so we can cancel the insurance on my Civic and tow it. I'll have to buy a trailer myself.
I purchased both of my enclosed trailers used from local classifieds like the Recycler and the Truck Trader, and I got great deals. I even made $2K on the first one when I sold it about two years later. My latest is a one-year-old 20' V-nose trailer completely finished on the inside with cabinets, fluorescent lighting, fold-down dinette/bed, sliding window, roof vents, etc. I only paid $5K, and most think I bought new when they see it. Don't overlook eBay, either. You never know what you might find.
Anyone have typical trailer weights for a 20' enclosed? It seems all the trailer retailer web sites don't list pricing either
I bought mine from Leonard Truck and Trailer near Canfield, Ohio. They have a 800# and website. Since you are also in PA-there are a raft of trailer dealers toward Harrisburg. Also contact Car MAte and Bri-Mar to see their offerings (they are both online). Our trailer is an all aluminum 20' R&R (made in Michigan and priced much less than an Exxis). Why the length when I am towing a 12' 2" CRX or a 99 Prelude-because they fit perfectly and balances very nicely. You will discover that the difference in money for the extra length is actually small for an open trailer like ours. If you want an enclosed one take a look at Haulmark as they are really big and still reasonablly priced. You will want one that is between 20'-24' or it will be very cramped inside.
Something else to consider is what you are using to tow with. An F350 or equal from Dodge or GM will pull most anything up to 28' both open or enclosed. Our Dodge Dakota Club Cab with 4.7l V8 and automatic is perfect for taking either of our cars (Prelude weighs 1000 pounds more than CRX) to the track at Pocono or The Glen-long hills are hard on trucks. BeaveRun is in our back yard so the trip there is easy. Keep in mind that no matter what combination you decide on you will eventually want more.
BTW: Take a look at http://www.trailerworld.com in Kentucky as a source along with the other "southern" dealers in NC and Georgia. For a PA buyer you want something that will last thru the weather here.

my trailer is an 18' enclosed PACE. its a really nicely made trailer, with heavy duty torsion beam axles, dual brakes, heavy duty beaver tail, interior lights, bearing buddies, etc. its weight empty is 3500lbs, if i remember correctly.
it hauls my Ford Probe GT very nicely, with room left over for 7 gas cans, 4 tool boxes, spare rims, boxes and boxes of spare parts, etc.
I got it from a place called County Line trailer sales in NJ. good selection there.
I have been considering trading up to a larger, 5th wheel trailer, ever since my dad got a bigger truck with a 5th wheel hookup. it would be great if I could bring both racecars to the track.... one breaks -- no prob. simply take the other one out of the trailer and ready to go!!! ha ha ha.
its really nice to have a dry place to go when it is raining at the track. not to mention, everyone pitted nearby who has an open trailer wants to use it to change into their race suits
happy hunting.

The Haulmark site has specs for all their trailers, including weight. The Thrifty Haulers are the lightest Haulmarks, IIRC, at around 3200 lb empty and 7000 gross for a 20 footer. my 18' one shows 2950 empty and 7000 gross on the title.
Around here, the lots will generally have a few 20' and 24' in stock at around $4200-$4500 with what they call the Thrifty package: diamond plate stone guard, roof vent, and tiedown points.
If you order anything special (and there's a ton of options) it'll take 6-8 weeks to build and you won't get as good a deal, unless you're buying top-of-the-line.

If you do buy that 5th wheel 2 car enclosed trailer, wouldn;t that mean that your trailer would cost more than your race cars hehehe!!!

but, in addition to towing my cars to the races, it could serve dual duty as a "mobile home" for my racecars! i don't have garage spaces for them, and I am sure that they currently hate living outside....
if i look at it that way, i can almost convince myself that it is a good idea!!!

I know its a bit off topic but.. Im in search of an enclosed trailer myself.
Going to be a Drag CRX in a 24ft trailer. Hows the towing capability of a 2003 Yukon XL with this type of trailer setup and weight? Anyone?

I'm looking at a Tahoe, which is essentially the same rig. From what I've found, the Tahoe's towing capacity is 7000 pounds. The 3500 pound enclosed trailer, car, and gear pretty much limits out the Tahoe to the edge of being unsafe.
Anyone towing with a Tahoe?

You think so? So towing an enclosed trailer with a car should only be done by Duallies, etc.(bigger than Yukon/Tahoe)
Our race car will weight about 1700lbs with 400lbs of tools, etc. plus the weight of the trailer.
I believe the Tahoe has a lower towing capacity? the Yukon XL and Suburban have a higher capacity?

Remember - the bigger the trailer the bigger the truck. Towing capacity of my Dakota is 6100 total including the truck bed. The trailer is rated for 7000 because each axle is rated for 3500 and the hitch is the correct one for Class 4. You have to detemine the combined weight of the car and trailer plus equipment in the bed. A Suburban will handle most anything up to 28' as will the Expedition and several others. There are only 2 intermediate trucks that have any excess capacity to pull my setup-the Dakota and Tundra. Do not try to use a Ranger - it simply won't last according to everyone I've talked to.
