Default If the itr wing is functional... is the gsr for asthetics?

ive been contemplating for a while..... ive read up on a few archived threads about the itr wing and its functionality. At first the itr wing didnt appeal to my eyes.. its slowly growing on me. Now that my car is somewhat dropped and I also have the full oem kit, it got me thinking...

some things to keep in mind..

one: does the comptech wing bolt up to the gsr? (i forgot, I think a couple holes may have to be patched)

two: If so.. its going to cost money for patching and painting the wing.

three: blah blah blah

four: led or no led

i think for the GSR all holes are covered by the comptech itr wing right? and you better get a LED brake light if your state requires 3rd brake lights.

yes comptech will bolt right up if you get the LED one. if you get OEM or non-led you'll have i believe 2 holes left open.
you're supposed to have a 3rd brake light but many people get away without one...

You have an OEM wing right?
You still have a middle (3rd brake light) in the window so you could get the ITR wing with no LED (just like OEM) nad you'll still have your 3rd brake light cuz there's one in the window.

GSRs and rs/ls/gs use the same wing, correct?

well you have a gsr so you have the gsr wing . . .but the 3rd brake light on gsrs is in the wign , so you can get a 3rd brake light from a crashed ls/gs/rs /itr , with the 3rd brake light in thr window . . .

also yes all rs/gs/ls/se that DO have the gsr wing , have just the 3rd brakelight in the wing . . (from the factory atleast)

The Comptech ITR spoiler bolts right up. It covers all the holes, so no need to patch anything up.

for the thrid light, you could always get an rs ls gs hatch lid :D

Personally i think a teg with an oem kit would look better with an ITR wing. After you lower the car, the tail end seems to need something more. Another idea was to replace it with a small lip on the trunk. I might photochop something to see how it would look.

I am installing an OEM kit on my teg tomorrow and was glad i picked up the itr wing months back..

good luck with whatever you decide.

does anyone know if the stock gsr spoiler is functional?

If so I just might end up keeping my stock one.

I used to have the Comptech ITR wing with the LED on my GSR. Here's some answers from my personal experience... hope it helps you decide.

Q one: does the comptech wing bolt up to the gsr?
A: Yes, it bolts directly onto the GSR. Unfortunately the center most holes on the trunk are partially visible. There are three holes on each side of the trunk. The two outer holes are used to mount the wing. The third hole closest to the center of the car on the left came plugged with black plastic from the factory, however the center most hole on the right is open because the LED wire runs through. Both of these center most holes are partially visible with the Comptech ITR wing w/LED. Depending on the color of your car, you might be able to get away with some color matched electrical tape.

Q two: If so.. its going to cost money for patching and painting the wing.
A: (See answer to question one) Painting the wing will cost $100-$300 depending on the shop you use. I don't know if you'd want to go to that much work to patch the holes because you'll still need the center hole on the right to run the LED wire through. It be extra $ to patch the holes and might not be the best spent $ to just have the one center hole on the left patched and paint matched.

three: blah blah blah

Q four: led or no led
A: From my experience buying a Comptech ITR wing w/LED (and a lot of my own "wasted" $ in the process) I'd recommend buying a used OEM ITR wing or a used Comptech ITR wing w/o the third brake light. The reason I say wing with no LED is the wing looks kinda chubby with the LED. Just spend $20 or so and buy a used RS/LS internal third brake light and install it inside your hatch lid/trunk. (It's a pretty simple process). Then you'll have the best of both worlds. If you get tired of the ITR wing, you can take it off and you will still have a third brake light (good if you're in Cali).

Random ITR wing advice:
If I could do it all over again, I would not have bought an ITR wing at all. I would have used the money I spent on the wing and painting the wing to have the holes in my trunk and my emblems shaved instead. After a few weeks of having the ITR wing, I got a little tired/annoyed with it because:
1. It was a magnet for the wrong kind of people (street racers, police, thieves, etc)
2. Didn't look right with my almost stock looking suspension (pro-kit, of course that's my opinion). Rear end was so high to begin with, then I added an even taller wing.
3. I think my Integra looks better without a wing.

Maybe if I ever lower my car more I'll put the wing back on, but for now no wing at all. Probably like a lot of Integra owners, my car has gone through a lot of stages. From stock to Top Fuel replica kit, to OEM, to Wings West RS kit... I kinda like having all the parts/choices because it's nice to have different options. Of course it's all a matter of how much storage space/money you have to spend.

Hope this rather long and babbling response helps you make the best decision.

Forgot in my last post...

Pros/Cons of RS/LS internal third brake light on a GSR:

Pros
+ The RS/LS internal third brake light can be "easily" installed on a GSR because there is a little tab inside the trunk lid that can be removed where the third brake light mounts. This is where the wire also runs through.

+ Relatively cheap to buy one used and they are usually sold on these types of forums. Around $20 with shipping I've seen.

Cons
- Unless you have access to special tools, the RS/LS internal brake light might need a little double sided tape to aid in mounting because the GSR trunk lid glass does not have the two holes where two bolts usually run through on an RS/LS to hold the third brake light in place.

- Kind of a pain to run the third brake light wiring to the internal location.
