Default Best Oil

I've got a 97 gsr w/ 75k on it. I run it pretty hard. The weather here is hot now. (65-100) What's the best oil to use? I've heard that once you run synthetic you can't go back so I was thinking of using a blend.

there's been some great discussions on this in the past (search).

that being said, I like Castrol GTX 5w30 on the dino side, and Mobil 1 5w40 (or 10) on the Syn side for cheaper, readily available oils.

you can switch back and forth, but try for consistency...it takes a few chances to fully flush out old oil.

run 10w-30 hotter months and 5w-30 in colder months

I run Mobil 1 10w-30

I would like to run Redline Oil but its way too expensive and isn't readily avaliable

I think it's like this:

1st number is viscosity properties when the oil is cold (it acts like a 10 weight oil)
2nd number is viscosity properties when the oil is hot (it acts like a 30 weight oil)

Basically a 10w-30 allows the oil to remain fairly thin when the temps are cold, and still remain stable when the temp rises.

I use castrol GTX 10w30 year round.

140k miles on the odo.

I would only use 5w30 if I lived in below freezing temps. we get maybe one of those a year in houston. so it isn't worth it.

I use 10w-30 Vavoline Maxlife, for my 94gsr with 120k miles.

I used to use 10w30 Castrol GTX or Pennzoil.

But "the best" oil at a "affordable" range has to be Mobil 1. I heard Amsoil was really good but no thanks for me at $8+ a qt.

i use honda oil when i take the car to the dealership for a change, if i do it myself...its mobil oil. mobil produces the base oil for honda and then honda adds its own additive.
