Default Type R Front Lip getting Painted??

How much do you think the wings west type r style front lip for a 98-01 should be.
I got quoted for $300.00 from a Honda/Acura authorized body shop. I went out and talked to the painter, and he said its going to take 8 hours to paint it. He said something about getting the oils out of it, because it made of Urthene and can't just be painted. He said if he just paints it, it will come out all bubblely and since its flexible, the paint will chip off unless he does it properly. I'm going to take it to another shop that does work on my car, so hopefully i can get it cheaper. Too bad i didn't know Urthene would cost more to paint.

What do you people think is reasonable for painting it? i figure no more than 100.00

ask the guy what exactly he's going to do to prep it? Is he adding a flex agent. What kinda warranty is he giving you?

I would hand him the WW installation guide and tell him to follow that.

I haven't gone to get mine estimated yet, probably wont' for a while. Either waiting on the gb for the oem sides/rear, or painting the stock sides at the same time.

the Honda/Acura shops are used to filling claims from the insurance company (they can ask what they want).

sounds like the guy is tired of people coming it with cheap body kits wanting paint

search your yellow pages for auto paint shops

that is true, there are alot of ricers going their to get body kits. But i know the other guy who runs it, so he might do it for 200.00. I'll make sure what they do to it and first shop around more.

Urethane doesnt cost more to paint. painting bumpers, lips and spoilers all require prep work. this usually entails sanding, cleaning, primer, paint, clearcoat, compound and polishing. Maybe the garage doesnt do this type of quality work and says it has to be handled differently. Many shops just prime, use low grade paint and guarantee return business. removing oils?... i never heard of this before

I suggest going to a quality shop that takes the time to explain the process to you. Then you would appreciate the work involved and jsutify the costs involved.

Alright, i went to two body shops today. One to a recommended one, where someone got their moldings on their teg shaved, and the guy told me $125.00 to paint it, but he can't guarante the paint not to chip off.

The other body shop, one that worked on my car before, told me $100.00 to paint the front lip. However, he told me to install it, and bring my car with it on. Leave it for like 2 hrs and it will be done. He said since its urthene, the paint will chip when i try putting it on, no matter where i go.

Any more advice? i'm going to random shops tommorrow, to get some options. I never new how hard it is to get urthene lips properly painted. Because there are not like the oem, they are flexible, etc.

Hey, I went to the Wings West website and found a bunch of authorized WW distributors around my house and called them up. Most of the WW dealers don't have paint shops so they recommended me shops that would normally paint their WW stuff.

I went to one of the recommended paint shops today and got quoted for 110$. Paint is guaranteed for chips or whatever. I specifically ask if they will add a flex agent in the paint and the rep said of course. The lip will be done in a day or 2, I'll take pix of the install and the quality for H-T to inspect!

Oh, the rep also told me they add a flex agent to any bumper/plastic panel they paint so urathane or not doesn't really make a difference. I think you just have look around to find a shop that does a lot of body work and knows what they are doing. It shouldn't be too hard but settling after 2-3 shops is definintely not an option! Price should be around the 100-150 range, anything more they probably don't know what they are doing and anything less is kinda shady. Good luck!
