Opinion on Ebay Mod
I keep seeing auction for a modification on ebay. It claims that it is just a chip or resistor that will give 20 more horses, more torque, and better mileage. I emailed the guy and he said that it makes your ECU think its getting colder air than it really is and that is where the power comes from.
Is this thing dangerous? Will it damage my cars sytems at all?

Its BS, dont even bother. My guess is that it advances your timing alot, which will cause detonation and ruin your motor. Sorry bud, dish it out like the rest of us.

amen to that, there's very few parts you can trust getting on ebay.

dont ever buy complicated stuff off ebay, unless its brand name and new. used parts are usually junk. although you can get some awesome deals on ebay. i got my tail lights, cai, coilovers, and strut bars off of ebay. just dont trust private sellers. if they have more than one auction of the exact same thing, odds are that they are a distributor. make sure you ask a butt load of questions before buying anything; that can save you a lot of

dont mess with your ecu unless its coming from a reputable place. You may end up causing more damage than good for your car, if it indeed runs with these chips.
If you dont mind, i have some pc100 sdram that will add 512mb to boost your ECU's page file :D

All he is selling is a resistor that take the place of your air intake temp sensor. It make the ecu read that it is getting the coldest air it can sense therefore the ecu adds more fuel and can advance the igition timing. Of course in reality if your car is breathing 200*F air from your engine compartment your car doesn't know so you are running super rich with too far advance timing. Hello detonation. Goodbye cheap ricer engine.
Sounds about right.
Don't forget, though, that with the car running rich all the time, you will LOSE serious mileage, not to mention fouling the cat.

If it's soldered then you have to de-solder it of course...you can get a soldering iron & a soldering wick. The wick looks like a tapes of copper wires (about 5mm wide) and you basically heat up the pin area, and let the copper wire absorb the solder when it's hot. If you don't know how...check out this article. It's pretty easy...you just have to be careful especially dealing with sensitive circuits like that...
