I think there are a lot of unfounded rumors regarding switching to Synthetic. I've never had a problem with it in my MR2, and it had 166k on it when I got it.

Get the high-mileage stuff. Synthetic has a tendency to find the smallest of openings in older engines, creating leaks. You should not use synthetic at that high mileage especially if it hasnt been run in the motor up to that point. The high mileage oil is formulated to lubricate seals and keep your motor happy. There really isnt a benefit to running synthetic anyways. Its all hype!

I just got a DX coupe, 1997, with 130k on its odo. Original owner used Mobil 1 since 3k, and to this point no leaks. If I were you, I would stay with regular oil but use the high mileage formula.

Why? Makes no sense to me and waste of money. Just use a decent oil. Castrol or Mobil will be more than fine..
