Never driven the GS-R in extreamly hot weather.......
Guys... this is first summer I have my 01 GS-R. Yesturday and today is extreamly hot here in Toronto. +40 degrees celsius
Anyways, after an hour of driving.... theres so much heat coming out of around my e-brake boot/arm rest area. Anyone else experience this?
I'm thinking its my stock CAT thats causing this heat.... I'm thinking of getting a Carsound HI-flow cat in the near future.... would this help reduce the heat?
Any thoughts?

Wow, I was just gonna post about the same thing..... I actually stuck my hand in the boot where the e-brake is and it got real hot. Anybody ever thought of a way to prevent this, maybe adding some kind of insulation right there. When my arm is resting on the armrest I can feel the heat radiating from right there.
yeah, I know... my windows are tinted. and during highway driving the AC is on and its great... but you can clearly feel the heat radiating from around the e-break, like a heat gun.. lol
I think it is do to the cat's heat but I doubt a hi-flow will help much. I think some heat insulation like some Dynamat Extreme would work well to keep it out of the passenger compartment. It gets kind of scary when you think of the heat that is radiated back on the engine and transaxle. Has anyone installed a trans cooler on a manual Integra. I was thinking you would need some kind of external pump to pass the fluid through the cooler.
The cat gets so hot that much of the heat transfer is radiant. That's why it has those kind of heatshields instead of just insulation.
The heatshields lose a LOT of their effectiveness if they are dark-colored from rust. Getting new ones might help. Hate to say it, but even the steel casing of the cat itself will radiate more heat if it's not shiny.
Running rich? If so, the cat gets hotter than it's supposed to.
Got an aftermarket exhaust? The factory B-pipe has heatshields around it.
But anyways, a lot of cars have this problem. Not just Integras.

My cat heatshields are gone too, & I haven't set anything on fire. I don't live in Tampa, tho... I also don't spend time stuck in traffic, but it happens. At first I kept watching it closely, looking for burned paint on the floorpan over the cat. Mine isn't doing that, so I've gotten a little more relaxed about it.
All I wanted to say is IF you take off the heatshields you make it a bit worse for heat at the console.

hmm. how bad is it to run my car without the heatshield above the cat/header collector? i just installed a jdm 4-1 and a carsound cat and i took off that beast so i could do the install. im not even sure if it will fit back on, and it was a pain in the *** so i just left it off.

This won't help at all, because most likely you will lose the ability to use your stock heatshields when you swap for the bigger cat.

Yeah mine feels almost like a heating vent
I am running an aftermarket exhuast and took off the heatshield above the cat. I don't know if getting a high flow will help but I am about to buy one for my car anyways.
Does anyone know where I can get a high flow w/ flanges already. I would want a 2.25in since my exhuast is only 60mm(2.36in.). I would rather not pay like 200 to buy it from SMSP. Someone must sell them for cheap because I know you can buy just a carsound w/o any flanges for like $50. It couldn't be much more to add some flanges...
