KYOKUGEN Lug Nuts: lightweight and theft deterrant locking... your thoughts?
Does any H-T'rs use them for either their weight or theft derrant benefits?
Here's the product description: These nuts are unique in that they are heptagonal, they are seven sided lug nuts. Kyokugen nuts look like standard lug nuts, but the only way to remove them is with the special socket provided with the set. In addition to the added security, these nuts also weigh 50% less than stock lug nuts (0.9 oz. vs. 2.1 oz.) On a car with 4 lugs per wheel, this can save you more than a pound! These lug nuts are open ended to comply with most race sanctioning bodies. Sets are available in M12 x 1.5 and come in black, or silver and come 20 to a pack.
I am considered these while i look for wheel locks for my car. Wondering if these are worth the money (approximately $55 + Shipping).

Doesn't sound like anything some anti-seize compound can't fix.

If you want JDM, light weight, and/or theft deterrant all in one, you should look more into Mugen, Spoon, and Rays.. Just a little more costly but worth it in the long run..

Read my comment in the other thread...the stripping problem was solved a long long time ago. I have Kyokugens, scored em cheap and they work perfectly.
I have some Gorilla's that I ordered from JC Whittney in black a year ago. They work great as well.

yea, good friend had that problem so we don't even recommend them to customers. skunk2 is a good choice and not as expensive as spoon etc

Dood how many times do we have to go through this?!?!?!
Mackin corrected the problem with keys stripping over a year ago. The new keys dont strip in my experience, and if they do, youre not using them right. Hand tighten them, make sure you have a newer version of the key (which you do, unless you bought them 2 years ago) and you'll be fine.

Looking for some new lugnuts myself. I have three different sets on my four rims right now, apprently people keep trying to steel them and get a lug nut or two off before they realise they are just painted stock GSR hammers
Key would be nice, and light is always good...

Does that mean you don't want to tighten them to the suggested 80lb/ft ?

Nono, definitely tighten them to the specifications. Some lugnuts require different torque levels, but its around the same...75-80lb/ft.
Just dont use an airtool to tighten them...make sure you do it with your own strength, thats all.

I have had mine for over a year and no problems what so ever. I just don't use an impact on them, remove and replace them all by hand and wrench. I'll admit the key does seem a little thin, but just be careful and not get all crazy with it and it's fine.
i would not go with open end nuts anymore. last set i had sprayed antiseize all over the place.
I've had mine for over a year now and still no problems yet *knock on wood* I never ever use a impact gun on the lug nuts. I just use simple hand tools and torque them down to stock specs.
ya i have kyokugens right now, i have to admit they suck. just saving up a bit more til i can git some rays.
the bad thing is, anyone who purchases a set will have the special tool needed to remove the lug nuts. :\
