TIG weldors, I need your opinion....
between the
lincoln 175 synchrowave
miller 180sd
T/A 185stw
Anybody tried both? I was wondering which one actually performs better? I'm had my fair share of Miller, but I'm stumped fomr a lincoln point of view.
and now for the Important question
You guys think I could run these machines form a 30amp breaker for a while until I upgrade? Won't be welding aluminum for a while anyways(high amperage).
ANd is it possible to run like an 8guage 10-15 ft. extension cord for the machine? The Dryer outlet is like 10ft. of where the mahcine is going to be located at in teh garage
EDIT: I threw in teh thermal arc jsut for kicks...I really like it

8 gauge should be fine, 10 gauge is rated to 30 amps as far as i know. You can ask at this board for better answers to your welder specific questions. They are very knowledgeable and there are a bunch of guys that are professional weldors on there.
I have the miller and I like it alot. I used to have a 30 amp circut. it worked fine for everything except aluminum. Up to about 110-120 amps with dc. Htp usa makes some really nice inverter machines.. They draw about 26 amps and put out a ton. Plus they have a 100% duty cycle. When you talk to them about price tell them you know a guy who just bough one for like $1800 and they will price match. Its kinda like buying something direct from aem or greddy instead of a dealer.

yeah, I'm leaniong more towards the inverter machines otther than the transformer machines. The HTP costs to much to setup, but I like it. The invertig 200....
I'm leaning towards the T/A because of the inverter technology and price. They go anywhere from $1600-1700 with the whole package(torch, pedal, regulator)

I have the thermal arc 185 and I like it but don't have anything to compare it to. Seems most of the guys on the hobart welding board compare it to the miller dynasty 200 dx. best price on the T/A that I've heard of is around 1700, as a ready to tig kit.

I just recently got a dynasty 200 dx and like it a lot. It has the features and power of a larger unit. However, it doesn't come with anything, not even the plug for the power cord! It only came with a power cord and two connectors.

I was thinking about the 180sd too, but will I be safe running it from the dryer plug with a 30amp fuse? That's why I was leaning towards inverter machines...light and effective
as long as your dryer uses a 220v then it should be fine i ran mines out of my dryer for close to 5 moths before moving it into my shop...
yeah, I jsut might do that...damn...200 some pounds though
I guess I should start working out again if I want that thing
Does the runner kit have a storage area for teh tank?

yup it mounts on right behind the welder and you wrap it with a small chain that comes with it... trust me very nice welding kit..... comes with every thing you need to fire it up except argon and tank....
I might just look into the transformer machines again. The only thing that makes me angry is teh weight of the damn things
