New Apex'i WS....wierd smell
I just installed my Apex'i WS tonight and after running it for a little while, i smelled this burning sugar smell coming from the exhaust. I couldnt figure it out. Maybe the ceramic coating or whatever baking on or whatever because its the first time its been heated?
Also, i love the look and the quietness. I still can't hear anything but my damned intake. that thing is loud. Right when i installed it, there was a slight rattle, but it was just a heat shield, so i took it off. Fitment was excellent and everything looks great. Everything just seems smoother now.
Now all i need is a high flow cat and header

i used to have this cat back setup in my Si coupe...don't worry about the smell...it will go away in about a week or so...i think it's the anti-rust material in the piping or something...
Yea, smells like burnt marshmallows....or burning marshmallows. It was funny, we were driving and a friend of mine was behind me and he acually asked his passenger what that pleasant smell was. Thought it was coming from the Bi-lo bakery or something!
Thanks for the info tho guys. I love the exhaust, kinda wish I could hear it a bit more, but maybe when i get a high flow cat and a new header the sound will get a bit louder and nicer.
So far I love it.

Yeah, that sound is normal. I remember when I first put mine on, I thought I had messed something up or something was burning that wasn't suppose to be. Mine went away in a few days.... but thanks for reminding on how it smelt

LOL Some real shadetree stuff.
Can I bend the hangers on the muffler to get rid of the rattle? Or do I have to have them relocated? It really pissed me off that I paid 350 for the "bolt-on" exhaust and it still doesn't fit right.

not gas tank rattle but, heatshield rattle when we installed it on my friend's car. i used a dremel to cut that portion off of the heatshield.

when theay mandrel bend the exhaust piping, it requires a light coat of an oily substance that is burnt off as the exhaust pipes heats up for the first few times.

You listen carefully and look under the car to see where it hits. My WS smelled the same way, it's part of the "break-in" process. I also had to bend the last heat shield because it was hitting the piping. Also, at times my short shifter hits the piping which is why I'm going back to my stock gsr shifter.

for my friend's situation, it rattled under idle so it was easy to pin point the rattling. also, i just got under the car and shook the exhaust piping every which way to try to simulate the rattling under real world conditions to see where the rubbing occurs.
i got on the gas till about 3k where it rattled then my friend looked under the car with his mag light (this was 9:45 pm) and tried to see it...he saw where it was close to a heat shield, so he put on a glove and put his hand on the shield and held it out of the way....thats it.
then just unbolted the heat shield and pulled it off
