My Azenis just exploded!
I was just driving down my road going 20mph. A car was in my lane so I had to veer over in my lane and i hit a pothole. I hear a loud pop and then air running out of my tires. Get out and look and what do ya know, a hole in both of my passenger side tire sidewalls, the one in the front is about 2.5 inches and the rear tire is missing a chunk and has about a 3 inch hole in it.
Not that anyone cares, I'm just venting.
At least discount tire direct is working with me and they are going to send me new tires for the cost of the optional warranty. So their customer service gets a big

Yea, I got pretty lucky, at first the guy was like, "Well it's not our fault you hit a pothole."
and I said, "Well I mean the tire should not have blown when I was going 20mph and hit a small pothole."
he agreed, and after some slight bickering he put me on hold and said, "Let me see what I can work out for you."
So at least they were willing to help me out since the tires weren't even on my car 24 hours yet

My grandmother suggested filing a claim with the city, she said that is what some people did whenever some potholes busted their tires a while back. So I guess that is an option...

what about your rims?..usually when you hit hard enough to blow tires your wheels should be bent...i would check them, and yes if the city/township knows about the pothole they have to replace what was damaged on your car...at least in ohio they do, that's what my friend did, 2 struts, 3 wheels and 2 tires ,they bought all new ones

he tore the sidewall of the tire, so i doubt he messed up the rim. However its still a possiblity. he probably hit the inside edge of the pothole or a protrudung sharp edge and tore the sidewall. it has happened to me twice with no rim damage.

yea, there are a couple flat spots where the rim bent, but i'm not going back down the road to take more pics.
and yes it was on a public road.
this sucks.

That looks nasty!! Sorry to hear about your luck. I agree with everyone who is saying file a claim against the city. They should have to replace your tires and rims.
damn, at 20mph and it looks like that? wow. does the azenis have rim protectors? as for filing a claim, go for it. make sure you take pictures though. good luck

ha, maybe you and i should share that location

yeah photos are essential, make sure you put something for reference (like a dollar bill) next to the hole for size. the town will pay for it if you intelligently and cordially present your case. sucks about your rims/tires. good luck getting things fixed up.
Damn that's amazing. You uhhhhhh didn't have them over inflated did you? Wouldn't think so. I just got some new ones so I'll watch it but I use them for auto-x only. But still damn.

I'm one of them...But be prepared. Some cities will drag their feet. I first filed my claim back in Sept. It's almost been a year and I haven't seen anything yet.

Around here on almost every road they have signs that read "Use at own risk" so people can go after the city/town. Prolly because MA is under construction all the time.
I remember the day after I got my tires put on I hit a pothole. It was hiding in a puddle that looks small. Got a huge bubble on my sidewall. It later blew out when I bumped it with a curb Parallel parking.

I dont know how much help this is, but...
Down here a friend of mine hit a pothole that was caused by faulty roadwork, and lack of proper safeguards in place to prevent cars from going over the faulty roadwork. A guy I know hit a "cut" in the road in his accord, popped 3 tires, and bent 4 rims. He initially sought recourse through the city, the city in turn went straight to the contractor who was doing the roadwork. He got it all settled. Usually if its a messed up road, the city, or a contractor will pay it. It helps if you throw in "damnit, I'm a taxpayer!"
