boost gauge only showing 5psi...why?

jrsc w/ 8psi pulley
vortech fmu
jrsc btc
p28 ecu
hooked up a used autometer boost gauge yesterday and it is only reading up 5-6 psi
any suggestion on why I am not getting full boost?
I have a loose sc belt, would that cause it?
