Installd a K&N filter in my civic d16a6.. It sounded really good but det car won´t rev more than 5000rpms on the 5th gear. whats wrong?

 

need more info- a new filter won't cause that my man.

isn't that like 90mph why do you need to go that fast?

 

ok from what i am getting is that in fifth gear your car wont go past 5000rpms, right? There is a thing called an aerodynamic wall (hypothetical) its basically when you cant go any faster, the wind pushing against it wont let the car go past a certain point when the aerodynamics on the car just stop working and it becomes a wall that you need more power than a k&n can push for you.

 

ok! But when I have the orginal airbox the car revs upp to 7000rpms with no problems at all... strange.. I thought that the KN would help me to get more power.

 

honestly i dont know what to tell you. you are increasing the airflow so the car is leaning out more in the higher rpms/speed. the stock airbox will reduce airflow and cause the car to run a little richer in the higher rpms/speed. maybe thats whats goin on

I kind of doubt that he is getting that kind of restriction from the wind I had my automatic CRX DX up to 110 MPH and then I lost power maybe if I went down hill? But this was also going against the wind.
He would have to have a lot of wind force to stop him only going 90MPH.

Did you have this problem before the K&N filter? Did you oil the filter before you put it in? If so maybe you over-oiled it (If thats even possible??) or maybe you knocked something off when you were putting it on??

i dont know what the gear ratio is in the si but i know at about 130 in fourth gear is when my car says **** you im not goin any faster, so i have no idea.

So what would happen if you put it in fifth? What are your RPMs at 130mph in forth??
*EDIT* or is your car a 4 spd?

 

my car is a 5 speed but alas i have no tach, im thinking around 6500 or so
