CRX DX = No AC?
I just got a 1990 CRX Dx. Havent really had time to do anything on it. Just wanted to drive it ASAP so I go plates and insurance on it. Went today since it was hot, to a Auto Shop and asked the guy to recharge the AC. I feel like such an *** cause I didnt know I didnt have AC in the car. My question is how much do you all think it would cost to put an AC system in and do you all think it can be done by me or a knowledgable mechanic? What parts would I need to make this possible? TIA~!
yeah A/C was an option on Dx's. If I am not sure about a feature on a car I always go to http://www.kbb.com and look up the value of the car, at the page that you enter features and mileage it will start the page with what comes stock on the car.
A/C is usually a $700-800 feature on hondas
shouldnt cost u more than that. you could always just find someone that doesnt want their A/C on their d15/16 and get the stuff from them.

so how much would a shop charge me using junkyard parts to put AC in the rex? I've been driving the CRX for 2 days now and I'm baking in the car. I feel like it was a waste to buy it now. As long as I can get AC in the car I would start my project then.
I'm just trying to find out what the price range would be to put a AC system in.

anyone else know how I can get AC in my car and if I can do it myself? I called up a shop and there asking 1200-1500 for a aftermarket system. I dont have that kind of money so no I'm think I may just do it myself or get rid of the rex that I had for a few weeks. Madd ghetto. I even paid insurance under my name and paid for resitration. Spent abour 4 something on insurance and 1 something on registration. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

yeah it might be a PITA to put A/C in your car because of all the parts. you need lines, dyer, condensor, compressor, cycle switch, wiring, condensor fan, switchs, evaporater, then you have to put freon in and get a harmonic balcener, a/c tensioner, belt, umm i think thats about it. if you spent a whole day at the junkyard you could proably get it all for about.. 400 to 500 bucks? sounds about right, then u gotta put it all in which is a bitch. I think the hardest part would be wiring all that ****. Wires to ECU, relays, fans, compressor, switch, blowermotor, all kinds of ****. Damn makes me depressed telling you all this. you'd be better off selling it and buying one with A/C IMO.
STAY AWAY FROM AFTERMARKET SYSTEMS!!! They never cool as well. And the fit/quality is FAR below that of the factory system. Find yourself a system that nobody wants and install it yourself. It is really not that hard, as your car is basically ready for A/C. It is a completely bolt-in affair: no fabrication required. The worst you will have to do is possibly bend some of the tubes to fit your car.

Like someone said above $550.00 plus s+h
Factory system plugs right in. I beleive it comes with instructions.
If you are mechanicly inclined at all, shouldn't take more than an hour or
two to put in. I remember the honda tech doing it to my car in about
40 mins. All you need is a charge of "freezone" its compatible with R12
system. R12 is too expensive, now. Get the sanden comp. not the
matshushita. Comes with ALL wires and relays and connectors.
If you go junkyard route you still need a new reciever-dryer because if open to the atmosphere they go bad. New one is like $100. right there. and how can you be sure you got all the little things you need.
Mine plus install in 1990 was like $800.
Do it yourself. learn something and save 200-300 bucks at the same time.

I called Majestic Honda which runs that website listed and the they said that it has been discontinued. And he said the only way to get an AC kit is to do aftermarket or take one from another car. Man I was hoping they had them because I need AC in my 91 CRX bad.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's all plug and play. It's the factory honda kit.
That's the same kit the dealers used back in the day.
Hondas didn't come with factory air back then, It was dealer installed.
Go to http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com
Click on "parts"
Enter: CRX: in box and trim level.
Click on: a/c kit
Should come with factory bracket , it's made for the crx by honda.
Can't see why it wouldn't.
I was gonna do it. But, I bought a beat one with a/c in it already and I'm
gonna swap it into the DX.
If you want to know more you should call them 1st.
There is a ph.# on the website.

Damn!!! Now I'm in my pissed off mood again. Where the hell would I get a aftermarket AC kit? I dont even know where to start. I dont want to get a used one because it might cause a problem. And the last thing I want to do is send it to an AC shoop and spend 1200-1500 for ac. I bought the freakin car for 1400!
What the hell do I do now?

I went thru this same thing last summer till I found the beater with A/C.
I think it's, http://www.autumotiveaircondition.com not sure though.
Try google or yahoo search for: auto or automotive A/C or airconditioning.
Search and you will find, I did

Dude, you can have my entire a/c system from my 91 Si for $125 + shipping. I have all of the underhood stuff and I know that it works. You may need to pick up some underdash odds and ends at the junkyard, but I have 98% of the stuff needed and all underhood stuff. I'll even send you an electronic copy of the Helms manual to help you out.
