Why do people do this?

I think cutting valvecovers is retarded.
I have two valvecovers one for tuning that doesn't have the entire timing belt section, and i have another one that's complete.
I've seen bolts fall into the timing belt and bend valves in the motor.
and I even have a friend who accidentally caught his finger in a timing belt and stalled his motor. Ripped his finger to peices, really gross..

the timing cover is there or a reason to protect the cam gears and the timing belt from danger. i dont undersatdn why people do this mod on cars that dont even get cyno tuned or race only cars. a lot of peopel do it just for looks becaue it looks cool. i wouldnt do it

Yeah who wants to make way more whp if they buy big cams?

I run an uncut V.C for daily driving and I have a spare cut ITR cover for tuning.
Although I must admit that I think you guys are exxagerating the dangers of running with a cut V.C.
Some people want to show off their cam gears too. Sue them.

Damn, you beat me to saying that

I don't see why you would only cut half moons though. All my friends that get their b-series tuned cut the whole timing belt cover of the V.C......it's just easier.
Cam gears can be just as critical as the cams themselves.......silvereh2, think about your statement bud.

i personally like the moon style cut valve covers.
#1 i plan to show off my skunk2's
and
#2 i plan to buy some nasty cams which will need some dyno tuning.
plus, it actually looks good with the half moon on the vc and half moon on the plastic.
bolts arn't going anywhere, no room to fall. i'll get pics up when i can.

Some one has to be pretty stupid to get their finger caught in the timing belt. I have a GSR valve cover now and its cut, today I will probably recieve my R valve cover and i'll cut that too. I do have STR cam gears and CTR cams and I'm planing to get them tunned as soon as I get my FPR in the mail.
People been doing that for almost 10 years now....why is it now just being noticed? I have mines totally uncovered for about 8 years now and nothing has happened. You guys either over exaggerate or dont have it done to your car. I did because it was easy for me to adjust the cam gear.

Actually to do that you'd need to remove the valvecover completely and probably pull off the cam caps too since they obstruct the view of the cams.
Did you mean cam gears?

no body here has ever seen what happens when you get a rock between the gears. ive seen a built *** motor go down becuase of it. odds of it happening are obviously slim, but why take that chance if your motor is worth anything at all. if youve got a single cam, go for it

i show off my springs and retainers by not running cams, caps, or a cover

Theres a bigger chance of a cold air intake suxin up water, but that doesnt stop people from using them. As long as it serves a good purpose that u believe in then go for it.
