NOPI @ California Speedway
Received this via email:ENHANCEMENTS TO CALIFORNIA DRAGWAY UNDER WAY
FONTANA, CA (June 24, 2003) – California Speedway’s quarter-mile drag strip, California Dragway, is undergoing some changes.
Construction began last week on lengthening the concrete launch pad from 100 feet to 330 feet. In addition, the concrete will be “shot blasted” to improve traction. Construction crews have also excavated the old parking lot asphalt that made up the remainder of the quarter-mile strip. This will be replaced with new asphalt 100 feet past the quarter-mile finish line. The remaining shut down area will remain the same.
The popular Saturday Summer Nights NHRA Street Legal Racing Program will resume on July 12th, kicking off a busy summer of racing activity on California Dragway.
The remaining Street Legal schedule is as follows: July 12, 19, 26; August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; September 6, 13. The September dates are new additions to the schedule. Gates open each day at Noon and Tech Inspection begins at 2 p.m. Street Legal racing starts at 4 p.m. and concludes at 11 p.m. The cost to enter the speedway is $10 for racers and guests. It is an additional $10 for racers to purchase a Tech Card.
On July 20th, the speedway will host its first Junior Drag Racing League event with an NHRA Division 7 Jr. Championship Series South Region round.
The quarter-mile strip will host its first professional drag racing event October 18-19 with the Mopar NOPI L.A. Race Wars, featuring the sport-compact drag racing series NOPI The Fast and the Furious Racing Series. The 10-race series schedule kicked off April 12-13 in Texas and culminates here where the series champion will be crowned.
