single cam owners..give me reason to believe!!
well guys although many friends told me ..buy the B16! (that my friend has) ..i sed no im keeping my single cam. i just have basic plans ..i dont want anything too serious .. i dont have time and money for porting. i have an intake and header, going to get an exhaust, ZEX stage 2 cam, AEM cam gear, and a 60 shot of nitrous. i figured this would be a decent daily driving basic setup. like i sed a few people sed its not going to be **** because i am not porting my head out (many friends of mine are dual cam believers and hate single cams)
if your friends that "hate single cams" have b series, then build a sohc to beat there dohc. that should me a good reason. a turbo kit for your sohc should cost as much as b series swap. you can find a GReedy kit for $1499

i know of a certain SOHC non VTEC coupe running low 12 daily driven at high altitude. stock D16Y7 head on a built D16Y8 block. so there ya go, plenty of potential, you just need to know how to find it
(i'd like it to go on the record that i am not a fan of SOHC's, nor do i own one.)

i love my sohc vtec (z6) in my vx hatch. Im spankin' B16's and B18b&c1(gsr) all day wooo woooo sohc oWnZ
I owned DOHC with my Turbo SOHC. Stick SOHC. Were working on a SOHC All motor set up, with the help of JG Edelbrock. We will see what that can do this sat. SOHC saves u money!! DOHC B16A/B18C long block about $1200-$1400 tranny $600-$800, SOCH full swap $500-$700. See? Tranny for SOHC $150-$200. Less down time if u bust something. My Current car a 93 Si, will go turbo soon.
My Old Turbo SOHC, and hey it was Auto!

what.. you think the turbo lag would help you out?? yeah... that extra hp vtec gives you at 6k rpms sure is grrrrreat!! haha.
seriously though... if we had similar hp/tq numbers.. it would be down to our suspension and driving skill.. not if were NA or FI

do whatevers within your budget. you will have a better platform and more power off the bat if you swap in a B18/B20 or H22. its much easier to make more power out of those since the aftermarket parts available is much more than whats out there for a SOHC.
i have had a D16Y8 before and it was fun as hell. i had aem intake, rsr header and exhaust, lightened flywheel. it dynoed at a healthy 126whp with 110 torque and got me down the quarter in 15.3 seconds. it was fun while it lasted.. but i wanted more power and better gears.
i sold it for an h22! haha

to the guy with the z6 in a vx....what b16s/b18s are u beating up on? Stock 99-00 Sis and 94-01 Ls/GS-Rs? Thats about where you should be. I hate the "go single cam to prove everyone wrong" thing, because once u build a single cam NA or even turbo it, your sacrificing reliabilty, and thats just to keep up with its DOHC competition. A nice stock Gs-R or even better, H22a will be the better investment, esp since its already fast without pushing boost through it or doing a decent amount of internal work. If you SOHC, do it for the right reasons....IE....parts are cheaper. IMHO.....get a h22a/JDM GS-R/b18c and smoke people.
i was going to build a sohc turbo car instead of swapping but i gave into getting a b series motor. i have seen some sick *** sohc vtec cars my freind has a jg headpackage with soem high *** compression all motor **** in his and ran a 14.3 with a non driver. it was built for autoxing though. great motor and when he was selling his motor i wanted it but i didnt have the right tranny for it (my dx wouldve been ****). a sohc nitrous though u wont be happy unless u go direct port though. i raced my freind with sohc nitrous ( a dx with port & polished and I/E/H) and i spank him daily with my b18b and he has a dry shot 55.
Cheap Parts, And dont say that its not reliable I know several people that run Boosted D series motor on 7-9lbs of boost for years now.
Just boost it. http://www.homemadeturbo.com That is reason enough.

What's in your budget.
IMO, if you have the money, the larger the engine the better.
Now, if you don't have any money for anything beyond the cost of a B16 swap, either save and get a larger engine or spend that money on your SOHC.
B16 = 1.6L
D16 = 1.6L
Hmmmmm.......all that money for only 1 more cam. No thanks.
My recommendation = B16 only if you have plans to purchase a B20 long block.

i cant beleive what im hearing from single cam people. sure single cams are great, and all these people are saying that SOHC TURBO OWNZ but cmon you gotta bust out the turbo to beat a DOHC man...if thats teh case why dont we just bust out the DOHC TURBO... i dont think the single cam will be keeping up very long..
i say u keep ur single cam. its good to be the underdog and whooooop on a DOHC's. Bisi ran a Carb D15 and is hitting 10's all day. if that isnt insparation, i dont know what is.......
SOHC OWNS DOHC!!!!!!!!!!!
