Default Catback or Axleback????

Okay, I'm about to buy an exhaust and i just wanted to clear something up. I have been told that it is pointless to buy a catback for the R because the factory piping is already wide enough and the only place you will gain horsepower from an exhaust upgrade will be @ the muffler. This makes sense to me but i wanna hear your opinions. I am looking at the 5zigen axle back, but i don't wanna spend all that money on somethin and then kick my own *** if i can get more power with catback.....

That was the belief previously. After more careful review that stock exhaust actually has a few different bottlenecks. Most people will still say to stick with the stock exhaust though.

I recently installed an ApexN1 catback and the car seems faster also lowered my 1320' time.

Since the stock exhaust already flows fine, you will gain little or nothing by changing cat-back alone. Changing the stock muffler will do very little except make you lighter (pocketbood).

Far better gains can be had by changing the exhaust upstream - header and cat, THEN the b-pipe and muffler will help.

However, If you run in SCCA stock class.......you can only change exhaust and air cleaner. So if you really need +2 hp....then do it.
