EP owners, Give me your thoughts on your car.
I am a big fan of the 99-00 SI, but the new SI is really starting to grow on me.
Anyway, I would like the pros and cons that you have found with the new SI.
Thanks.

I love My si. The older SI's were a great door way and that's how i feel in love. I also contemplated buying the older Si, However i did not for a few reasons.
1.) B series is an old platform and it's been maxed to it's potential.
2.) K series show huge gains already in the first year + of production, gains that well surpass the older Si's with similar mods.
Bad point: (The only bad point)
Our engines don't rev as high, but you know what they really do not need to, we have more torque at lower rpms then the older SI. + the I vtec ( even though we don't have a real vtec for the exhaust lobe) The retarted/advance more then makes up for it. We also have more torque, lighter body then the old SI.
You can get the hondata flash and get your revs back anyways.
The car is built better then the older si. The chaise is 80% stiffer then the older Si chaise. The seats are as sweet, the power band is more linear, unlike the old si where you wait for that ‘vtec kick’ the kick on our car is less pronounced but for good reason, the power band is SMOOOOOOOOTH.
The K series engine is sick to say the least, you can do endless swaps between the other k serious including the k24, swap heads ecus, the list is endless.
Now if your thinking stock:
The car handles so well, the over steer is almost desired in some instances.
We will take the older Si's off the line, they will catch up in 3rd gear because of how tall it is, however 3rd gear revs just don't out weigh the overall solidness of the 02-03 SI.
The B-series was great, and it had many advances, But it's time to hang up the old and go shopping for some new shoes.
Want more info on this check out ephatch.com or k-series.com and see what they have to say on it. Ask the same question there and see what response you get.

p.s. i was one of the first SI's purchased back in mid 2002, had my car more then a year now.
I drive it good and hard, 0 problems, 0 hassles, nothings broken and it's faster now then it was 20,000 miles ago.
+ your getting a new car, not a used sports car that you know some young cat ragged on. The reason to buy the new SI are there, just get over the shape, and how 'good' the old si looks compared, and you will see the beauty of the new si.

i can't say much about it b/c i went the the rsx-s instead of the si..but the first time i test drove it..i was VERY impressed...that brand new clutch felt like jello, steering was great, i even hit vtec on the test drive and it was nice..not as strong as the S..and thats y i got the s
i like it...
the k series engines seem to have lots of potential - i've seen people dyno their cars w/ i/h/e and hitting ~160 at the wheels. forgot what stock was though, but i think it was around 140-145ish at the wheel
the chasis is really rigid but makes the car heavy so the handling's great
umm... can't really think of anything else besides stock tires are really bad and really high ride height

I'm a huge fan of all the Si's ever made... but buyer beware, if you purchase one, you will be plagued with the disease that everyone thinks your car is super slow! When people think Si, they think slow...

Is 44 minutes without a response really enough time to make such an assumption?
My Si is a black '03, and I paid less than $16k for it new. I knew I was going to get a new Honda product, primarily as a commuter car, and the choices were the Si, an RSX or an RSX-S. The availability of the Si at that price was the determining factor. To mind, the RSX and RSX-S did not offer $5k to $7k more in what I was looking for in a commuter car. I consider the Si, at that price to be a tremendous value.
I liked the styling of the Si the first time I saw a picture of one. In the flesh, I liked it even better though I was a bit disappointed in its stance. After I purchased mine, I removed the decals on the side, put Eibach Pro-Kit springs and 17" 5Zigen Super Six wheels on it, for no reason other than to improve the looks. I'm quite pleased with the result. Upside of the mods was that it handles and brakes better. The downside is that it doesn't accelerate as fast as doesn't get as good fuel mileage, but not to any degree that troubles me. So far I've found the trade off to be acceptable.
Coming from driving a del Sol VTEC and a '92 Si, it took a little getting used to the feel of vehicle. Its certainly not as "edgy" as either of those, but its much more comfortable. For the price I paid for it, and the way I use it, it's difficult to find fault with the vehicle. If I had had to pay MSRP for it, I would have purchased one of the RSX variants.

ive had mine for a week and i love it. very comfortable, good suspension, and the thought of not even having 1000 miles on it compared to the 60k i had on my 2000 gti just makes me happy. also i thought the black interior would be hot but its much cooler than the tan leather in my vw. im very happy with my decision of getting an EP3.
Fun as hell to drive. Lots of esoteric extras that other cars just dont come close to. Well engineered, and built to last and lots of build-up options. Some folks are disappointed that it doesnt own the drag strip out of the box, but thats not what its supposed to do.... its a very-sporty-and-still-practical civic!

I have had my EP since April of 2002, and I still love it. I resently dyno'd it and I got 136.9HP MAX and 122.5TQ MAX and with my custom $45.00 intake it went up to 139.8HP MAX and 123.9TQ MAX. Not much but its across the entire range.
I owned a FBP 2000 si and now i Have a NBP 2002 si.
In comparing the two, the b16 was definitely more fun out of the box. The engine was loud and fun to rev, the stock tires offered better grip. and the suspension was firmer.
But I like the ep3 better overall. More torque makes it easier to drive in all situations. for most passing on the highway I don't even have to downshift (driving a b16 on the highway is an excercise in the 5-4-3 downshift). The interior is SO much better. Everything is in it's place, and there's a place for everything - so many holders & compartments. The k20a3 is a good motor for this car. it let them be at a lower price point, but it's a great motor to build up. you have tons of options, head swaps, turbo, frankenstien 2.4L swaps. Where the b16 was a much more polished engine platform out off the showroom floor, the k20a3 needs work. The biggest holdback for the ep3 off the showroom floor however are the tires. the car is dangerously under equipped in that dept.
invest in a good set of wheels/tires and you make remarkable changes to how the car handles. With an almost stock motor, stock suspension, and the new wheels/tires, I'm able to far exceed the speeds I could maintain in my 2000si with tire upgrades around most of my favorite highway on/off ramps.
the ep3 is a rough gem that's looking for an owner to give it some polish so that it can really shine.

?? WTF ?? Please explain the following
How is it "built" better?
How is the Chassis %80 stiffer??? Who the hell told you that?

Honda did. Its readily known that the new RSX/EP chassis is stiffer than their replacements.

I finally test drove the new SI and must say that from a performance standpoint, I was disappointed. I really beat this cars ***. Stiffer or not, it just didn't feel like it was anywhere near the 99-00 SI.
Yeah, there are swaps available for it, but after paying $15-18 grand, who has another $5500 for a swap.

hmm, what can i say that others havent already, just another EP fanatic, the shifters hot ****, low end torque, the way the car looks dropped.... i was very unhappy with my EP until it was dropped, cause i wasnt down with the whole driving a odessy thing, but with the drop, tint, and the sun roof popped,
overall, the only thing id change is the k20a3, minus one!!

I like everything about our ep's. Love the shifter but when we're at 5000 rpm its starts pulling really good, like a champ, but then we got to shift. Sometimes makes me mad, but hey i like how the way people stare at the car when i pass them. Gotta luv that low end torque. Over all i luv the ep.
pros: nice bottom end torque, good mid range, tight seats, solid construction, not dime a dozen like other civics, shifter on the dash, unique looks, lots of room out back. euro stylin
cons: slow, doesnt pull to redline (7700) stock ride height sucks, stock tires/rims are a joke. not real dual cam vtec, needs a 6th gear, engine at highway speeds kinda loud. no room in the engine compartment
