Default Turbo opinions? (Keyword add: SC61 SC63 60-1 62-1 T67)

I'm coming to the point where I need to select a new turbo. My goal for this car is to be able to beat single turbo Supras (mild ones, not the ones that are making like 800+ to the wheels) on the roll. Retaining PS and AC is a must. With that in mind, what turbo would you recommend? I'm leaning toward either an SC61 or an SC63 -- does the latter come in a T04E housing? Can I run a straight T4 and still retain AC (assuming the AC compressor is in the stock location -- no relocating of any AC parts for me!)? Thanks in advance...

Whatre you using for a manifold? SideWinder maybe? Itll be easier to fit a massive turbo in there, no shaving, etc.
Anyway, Ive heard amazing things about the SC series, I dont think you could go wrong at all in that department.

you can get the sc63 with a t04e housing, that would work very well for you. If you went to a t4 i forsee big problems unless you went to a hytech/lovefab style and put the turbo over yonder.

Carey, I would you go with a SC61. There is only a 20hp difference between the 61 and 63 but you have to pay $400 more. For the power you need to beat the supras the SC61 is your best bet IMO.

You cant get a SC63 in a S housing, well you could, but test from Precision have shown no increase of flow at all.

art, you are right the sc63 may not be worth the extra 400.00 to some people but i have to disagree on the 20hp difference. the sc63 in the small to4e housing has made 708whp at 32psi, its big shaft like the t series, the rear wheel is clipped and larger than the sc61. I can hardly see an sc61 getting up into the high 600whp range on a to4e housing. I tell almost everyone to go sc61 is the best bang for th ebuck but if you are lookign for that extra bit of power go sc63 only if you can afford it!!

I can attest to the sc61 making power, i've done it a few times now. It really depends on your goals though. If you're looking for under 630whp or so, i'd go with the sc61.

Mike, I see what you are saying too but for $400 you can made 20hp for alot cheaper. You can buy some ET streets drag radials for cheaper and put the power you are making to the ground.

Thanks guys for the insight. I'm leaning toward a SC61/T3 right now, but I'm worried that the T3 might be a little restrictive for where I want to make the power (on the roll, from like 50-150mph or so). Perhaps an Extrude Hone job on the housing might help flow a little. I'm not so sure I can go with a straight T4 because of that stupid little AC stipulation. Oh yeah, and I'm running a Revhard manifold. Going with a sidewinder type of manifold isn't totally out of the question, but I'd like to avoid the cost if possible. Thanks again!

I'm going to pull a # out of my *** and say 600whp. Would an SC61 be able to handle that? If so, what flavor of SC61 would you recommend?

I think you might have a hard time fitting a SC61 T4 with the ps and ac unless you go with a sidewinder type setup. From my understanding the t3 version of the SC61 really doesnt hurt your top HP that much over the T4.

I wasn't aware the SC63 only made 20 more hp then the SC61. Tony should be dyno'ing an SC61 w/ a set up very similar to motormatrix's and hopefully we will be able to compare the power levels. So far a member has made 480whp @ 20psi on the SC61(E housing) w/ just a 20X8X3 intercooler and inline pro mani. So the power is not that far off.

only thing is cheezefroggy is running Hondata w/ 3bar which means max boost is 28psi. I mean thats alot but to take full advantage of the SC61 or SC63 you can boost up to 32-34lbs if u choose. Either turbo can probably get you 600whp on a 3bar map sensor you can't go wrong after thinking about it(and finding out the price on the 63) my vote is for the 61 now.

cheezefroggy, are u keeping the LS motor?

Im kind of new with these Precision turbos, i was wondering if the SC61 came in the 60-1 compressor housing with a 4 in. inlet? or does it only come in an E housing, what options are available? also can yall give me a rough estimate on the SC61, stage 5 wheel, .63 exhaust, 5 bolt DP and 60-1 compressor, thanx

cheeze, i'm not trying to bust your ***** but the viper you raced and beat on video had around 700hp and ran 10's off bottle so you should have an idea of what it takes. i can tell you i beat a 680whp supra with under 500hp in my car. granted mine is lighter than yours but not that much.

i still say its more than 20hp the price difference is big yes but i would like to see what an sc61 will make at 28-32psi.

I never dyno'd my car at 29psi but i did run a 792whp syline 240 from a high roll so traction wasnt an issue for either car and put 5 cars in a 1/4 mile on him. My guess is 640-660whp since he was only 600lbs heavier and the roll was up high so weight isnt as big a factor. I'm not knocking the sc61 at all but i think the sc63 price difference is worth it if you are looking to make all out Hp in a t3/t4. this also goes back to the post i started yesterday about 84 and 85mm bore, why so big when you can make great hp and tq at stock bore?? let the turbo make the power!!

Dandee, the turbo u described is titled the SC54. It uses the 60-1 compressor wheel and has all the specs you want. you can get an SC61 w/ all those specs except it will have a GT40(better then 60-1 ) compressor wheel. Contact Arturbo, S housings w/ 4" inlet and velocity stacks are available
