CRX DX door speakers...
well I'm lookin' to replace the speakers in my doors, but I'm wondering what size they are, should I get a set of 5-1/4 speakers or a set of 6-1/2 size speakers?
lemme know what sounds appropriate and if possible tell me what you guys are using aftermarket and how you like em'
Thanks :D

I think that they will fit either or.
I put 6.5" in my 91 CRX DX though and also 6.5" in the rear also.
It may depend on the brand of speaker though? I know that the pioneer 6.5's fit in the doors though.
*EDIT* as for how they sound well I have the pioneers up front and hmm? damn I fogot what I have in the rear??
But for being just 4 6.5's I think it sounds pretty good, but I wouldnt mind getting like a 4 channel amp to power all of them though. I might just get a better deck though and see how they sound then?? Oh and I am running like a 2001 Alpine deck forgot the model number but its nothing special.

In my experience, c for sea is correct. The other problem, I've
found with non-honda speakers in my CRX's besides them being too
fat other makes of speakers aren't the exact same size as the honda ones. And the mounting holes are usually in the wrong places to
screw them into on the rex brackets. Non-honda speakers NEVER
fit right. So, me being the lazy $%@#^ that I am, and I'm an OEM fanatic.
I just keep replacing them with different honda speakers.
The one benefit is, no one wants honda speakers so you can find them cheap. $5-10.00 for 4 6.5's
The stock AFTERMARKET size is 5.25
The honda size is diiferent, it's a 5.25 speaker in a "honda 6.5 bracket"
Thats why aftermarket speakers never fit in right.

I guess I've just been unlucky then,
I've never found any aftermarket speakers that fit right, because hondas
have that green bracket with the 3 triangular holes.
Never tried sony's though.

Yep just like him I have 6.5's all the way around and never had a problem with them fitting??!! I have pioneer 6.5's in the front and boston acoustics in the rear the only thing that I had to do was drill new holes in the rear metal speaker holder other than that everything lined up. Never had a problem with them hitting the windows??!! Are you guys keeping the stock black speaker cup (or whatever its called) in? My pioneer 6.5's screwed right on to it and I dont see hitting the window considering the speaker doesnt go farther than that black cup. Oh and also my door panel speaker covers fit fine as well no hitting the speakers or anything.

Yea, for some reason all aftermarket install info says they are 51/4
but they aren't they're 6.5. Well like I said earlier it's "honda 6.5"
If you measure the diameter of the "actual" speaker it's 51/4.
but with the round green metal bracket it's 6.5. Honda, being difficult.

Well thats interesting considering I just picked up my Crutchfield magazine and under 88-91 CRX it says location front door size 5 1/4",6 1/2" and then depth was like 2". So i dont know what aftermarket info you have been looking at??
As for this green bracket your talking about?? What is it?? Mine dont have any kind of brackets on them what so ever?? And as for measuring the "actual" speaker there are a lot of speakers that have some kind of a mounting point on them so yeah if you get technical a lot of speakers arent there "actual" size.

It DOES say 5.25 DOES it not?
Crutchfield IS an aftermarket retailer is it not?
I guess I should have written,"5.25 to the exclusion of 6.5" or something
like that, to cover myself, huh?
I BOUGHT 5.25 speakers BASED on Crutchfields info.
They are way SMALLER than THE OEM honda ones. And they don't fill
the hole in the door mount fully and only 2 screws line up, OK.
So aftermarket 5.25 speakers will fit ,but then so will 4in. or 3.25 in. or mm, or whatever size you WANT to fit, see?
I have bought 2 CRX's NEW from Honda.
When you buy them NEW you can get honda radios and speakers with
them supplied by honda and installed by the wonderful honda techs.
Yes, I am aware of the fact that honda does not manufacture these
OEM stereo parts. And that they are made for honda by outside audio manufacturers, to hondas specs of course. When you buy said NEW CRX
from honda and they happen to supply said car with stereo components,
the said speakers are manufactured with a round green metal bracket
6.5 in. in diameter(I measured it myself) to insure proper mating of
said speakers with above said car. This alleged bracket is made out of the same material as the rear speaker bracket set with the 3 triangular
holes. EVERY honda car I have ever seen in my limited time owning them as well as friends and family members cars I have seen, who have OEM honda speakers (admittedly, built by another company for honda).
Have these alleged "green metal speaker brackets"
Perhaps some other bored member with a scanner or digicam can take a picture of one for you or you can go to http://www.ebay.com and search honda speakers and you should come up with something.
Just, trying to be helpful and pass along the little bit of knowledge
I've picked up along the way.
Hope That Helps, AND answers all your questions.
And BTW isn't the name of this board: "honda -"TECH" ?
I thought so.
I didn't think they changed it to: "honda well if you want to get technical,
I guess we could sorta, maybe yeah, that would be good".

EFsleeper is correct Crutchfield is ****. 6.5 is the correct size! my point
exactly.
Try this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...50526
In an effort to end this pointlessness. What I'm talking about is NOT
a seperate "bracket" per se. I should think a better term for it, would be
"speaker mounting ring" . This is the part that is dark olive drab green.
I can also see from your links that the newer honda speakers,
"mounting ring", is a natural metal color not green as in previous years.
None of this foolishness matters however, because the correct size still
IS 6.5, NOT 5.25. and to add, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES ANY OF THIS
MAKE. if you want to put 5.25 in. speakers in your car feel free, I don't
care. If you want to put in 15 in. sub-woofers, enjoy yourself. knock your self out.

6 1/2 speakers will fit, just make sure the magnet isn't too big that it's goin to hit the window or any other parts. If the magnet is too big, u could try to fit 5 /14's.
Maybe I am doing something wrong but I have tried several different types of speakers in my CRX ranging from el-cheapos to fairly high end component sets. No matter what I put in I still cannot seem to come close to matching my 2000 accord with the bone stock speakers
Your CXR door speakers are "STANDARD" 6.5", not to be confused with over-sized 6.5" speakers, a standard 6.5" speaker uses a 5" diameter mounting hole, over-sized 6.5" speakers use bigger then 5" diameter holes and they differ in size between manufacturers oven diff. models of the same brand can have diff. mounting hole diameters, [hence not standard].
Early model Honda/Acura that used standard 6.5" speakers, [3 mounting holes in a triangle] also had the 4 mounting holes for 5.25" speakers pre-drilled in the speaker housing so a 5.25" speaker can be installed easily.
Mounting depth is 2" although another 1/2"-3/4" of extra mounting depth can be had by cutting a hole for the speaker magnet out of the back of the speaker housing.
Also a spacer can be used to add another 1/2"-1", [depending on speaker front height] of mounting depth. 94
