How do you know if you have a blown koni yellow shock?

Default How do you know if you have a blown koni yellow shock?

What would be the symptoms? I'm not sure what to look for

psuh the car up and down with hands on both sides
u will tell a difference if they are blwon...... the car will go up and down more easy and will b more softer

Take them off the car. Look for fluid leakage, and push in the piston. It should be hard to do. If it is really easy, well, you get the idea. If you push it in and it doesn't come out, same diff, blown.

i got my koni yellows for $530 so thats roughly $132 each... and yes, a blown strut it will affect the ride quality of the car

Hello 91SiKen,

Koni dampers are not gas charged!

If you compress the piston rod it will not rebound by itself as there is no pressure in the damper to push the piston rod out.

Look for leaking at the upper seal on the piston rod. Not weeping, it needs to be a substantial amount of hydraulic fluid leaking to be considered a bad seal.

With the damper in an up right position compress the piston rod by hand through it's entire range of motion, if it compresses with smooth constant resistance in a smooth manor it is OK. Do the same with rebound pull the piston rod out, if it moves in a smooth manor at a constant rate with no change in resistance it is OK.
