release bearing grinding into pressure plate...
I would really use some help, as I am stumped, and baffled about this situation....
I had a comptech flywheel installed into my ITR transmission, but clutch was not changed. neither was throw out bearing (which turned out to be a big no no).
for a lack of better words, few days later, i hear a noise as if someone was ice skating in my transmission.
Lots of people pointed to the throw out bearing....so a new one was purchased and put in. meanwhile, when the transmission was down, the pressure plate was looked over, and sure enough, the release bearing as rubbing against the pressure plate, causing it to make a circular groove.
never the less, the transmission was put back together, thinking this groove wouldnt do anything.
WRONG. the sound came back within 2 days.
then we took the next step, and ordered a brand new oem clutch kit, which consisted of new clutch, new pressure plate, new throw out bearing. this was installed shortly after.
The noise stopped! well, so i thought. 3 days later, i swore i heard the skating noise again...but i could not definately distinguish it.
today....i notice the skating sound came back...and its audible...
this weekend, when the transmission is inspected....if the grooving/grinding is still there,.....i would be at a complete loss...
can someone enlighten me as to what may be causing this issue, and perhaps a fix or something that was missed?
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

son of bitch. i have that same noise, sounds like sand paper in a circular motion or somthng like that. people have told me its cuz my flywheel/clutch combo (toda FW, exedy clutch) pressure plate going in too far?? . man i just hope i do not need to pull that tranny out.
tell me, when does it make that noise? in gear, in neutral, have you tried jacking the car up and rotating the tires to see if it makes the sound.

sound is very difficult to hear outside the cabin due to motor noise
sound happens even in gear, and at acceleration.
its most audible when i accelerate, and slam on the clutch, and the motor rev drops to 800 or so....the skating sound is most audible then.

hmm.. during acceleration too.. ima have to check on that. so this happend the very first time when you took it apart? and it was the throw out bearing? i installed everything to spec. but i am taking a wild guess that the bearing might have slipped up or somthing when i was mating the tranny to the block... but everything shifts normal and feels normal.
how does the shifting feel in the car??
have you tried brand new everything... flywheel too.

The "groove" or ring is normal. the release bearing presses down thereto release
the clutch. id have to hearthe problem in order to give you better advice i think.

Sounds like it could be something inside the transmission..
What tranny fluid are you running and at proper levels?
How is shifting under acceleration?
Can you hear this noise when you are sitting at idle and/or with the clutch pressed in?

the first time when the tranny was taken off, the pressure plate didnt to seem to have this groove... then subsequent times the groove in the pressure plate was apparent.

oem honda fluid was used, and at proper levels.
shifting is smooth...just like usual under acceleration.
i can not hear the noise when sitting at idle or clutch pressed in.
I am really lost....is this a "regular" noise that I just never noticed until after the flywheel was swapped out?

I have the same problem. I was informed that it might be my tranny bearings.(main shaft or dif) I thought for sure it was my release bearing ...and sure enough the noise didnt go away when a new one was installed. It makes sense tho...cuz after new tranny fluid was in, the noise got lower.
Any slipping of the clutch under hard acceleration or speed shifting?
Is it just a sound, or sound like something is grinding away?
