Default Thinkin' about doing One Lap of America in CRX

Thinkin' about doing One Lap of America in CRX...

One of the considerations for replacement is my worn 160K plus D16a6. I just got a quote for a factory rebuilt Long Block for a whopping $2600 bucks, not a great option in my opinion, but it does come with a 3 year unlimited mileage warantee.

So against my original idea, I'm considering doing that B16 swap.
What were the major P.I.T.A.s about doing this?

The other option is to find a D16a6 and have it rebuit to ITA specs.

Opinions?

Thanks guys,

go post in the road-racing section. There are people that have done the one lap there. They can probably help you out as far as one lap goes. as far a your motor goes there is no way I'd pay 2600 for a stock d16a6 rebuild. There are alot of options for less cash. Do a search and most of your questions will be answered.

you could buy that engine, or a JDM ZC, which is a direct swap, for like 400 bucks at most.

Guys have any suggestions on where to buy either ZC or B16. I'm lookin' around, and using the search engine, but I don't see it.

Go easy on my this is the first time I've actually considered doing a swap.

I'd go b16, which I did.
The only thing you need to worry about is the wiring, which isn't that bad imo. I've been running my b16 for 2 years without any problems, knock on wood :knock knock
There are so many parts out there for the b series engines and they're stronger than the d series aswell.

I'd say if you want to do One Lap of America, do a rebuild of a d16a6, which in the future would be perfect if you want to go into HC with NASA or IT with SCCA.

Yeah, but that's divided between two people, but yes, still expensive.
All the more reason to find an economical way of getting a tight, and inexpensive engine.

I'm tending to want to stay with either an A6 or a ZC since I don't have to mess around with too much stuff. I'm more in favor of sticking with the stock motor for club racing reasons.

Thank you for all your input. I very much appreciate it.

Just fyi, for a stepping stone for the One lap. You reallly might want to take a look at this. Fairly local too.

Good luck with the motor options....I might have a complete zc swap in a few days as well.

I'd say go B16 - partly 'cause I have one and I know how rock-solid these engines are. My only real problem in all this long, long time is the alternator died. I've been racing (drag + autoX) for a year and a half now. Over 50 passes made on the B16, no problems, and the compression is the same as it was when I first installed it. It lives for high-rpm duty. Your typical D-series doesn't.

SoloSol, thanks for the Rally info. I emailed you about sponsorship for the event.

Good info, thanks for making the decision harder What was the most difficult part of installing a B16?
... I apologize if this question has been posted before. I'm hoping for new and fresh insight. Please don't ask me to do a search... this is a message board afterall.

Message board doesn't mean we're here to serve you by providing you with info

The hardest part of the installation... hmm. None of it was really *tough*. That sounds glib, but from sitting here and thinking about it for a minute or two I can't really pinpoint anything that gave me difficulty in the swap. Sure, there's lots to do, and it can take a while, but it's all easy stuff. It's just taking the time to do it right.

what about a Z6 swap u d16z6's can usually be had for about $350-$400.
you will still have to go through the wiring trouble though. but it really isnt that hard with all the resources out there on the internet.
