So Im driving on the highway wih the A/C on and all of a sudden there is no throttle response at all. I've got my foot on the gas, but Im not accerlerating anymore. Then it accelerates for a second, backfires, stops. Accelerates again, backfires, stops. All the while, the motor is still running and Im doing about 60.

As Im coasting into the gas station, the car dies. I try to start it a few times and it turns over, starts for about 1/2 a second, backfires and then dies.

main relay? have spark? fuel pump working? fuel filter clogged? need more info.

 

sounds to me like your dist bearing took a ****. as a matter of fact i'd put money on it. pull the cap off and see if the rotor spins freely...

 

Rotor might have come loose under the distributor cap... Check that out as well. Happened a few times to me til I lok-tite'd the little screw.

 

yeah...check the dizzy...my screw came loose a couple times within a 6 month period......
