Faint squeaking from tranny, disappears with light clutch press
Argh.. I hate my ******* car.
Alright, my 4th gen mantran seems to be developing a squeaking sound. It varies with RPMs, and when I listened in the engine bay it appeared to be coming from the tranny side. If I give the faintest press on the clutch pedal, maybe an inch,
the squeaking stops.
My common sense tells me it may be the throwout bearing, but I'd like more opinions. What I especially don't know is how long can I ignore this squeaking before it's a real problem. What will happen if I let it go?
Let's say I HAVE to replace the throwout bearing. How tough a job is it? I know the tranny is heavy as ****, but barring that? What else should I replace while I'm there? Friction plate? I think it's the original one at 179000 KM
Did I mention I hate my car?
EDIT: I should mention that I will be replacing the clutch and tranny fluids soon just in case. I figure that if it makes the squeak go away, all the better. Plus who knows when the hell the previous owner of this Accord did it last.

throw out bearing.. and what do ya want man? newest 4th gen is 10 years old now. you just gotta keep up on them.. **** i have 400k almost on my 91!
if you're going to take the tranny out for a TO, at the very least:
1.) Resurface the flywheel
2.) replace clutch disc/pressure plate
3.) do the rear mainseal.. even if its not leaking.
its a one man job if you're careful and have a nice jack to ease it down... and trust me it aint that heavy... try heaving a Ford C6 up by yourself

If you saw my build, you'd see why I say the tranny is heavy
Alright, thanks for the advice. I didn't know about the rear main seal especially. Looks like I have more work ahead of me.
400k miles? Jeez do you commute across states/provinces daily or something?
