Well, as the topic says, im wondering what kind of header i will need for my DOHC ZC engine. Do i need the 4-2-1 header? Also, what material are good headers made from? Is steel good? Stainless steel? Mild Steel? What is mild steel? the reason im asking these questions is because i want to soon get a header for my engine, and have been looking at some on ebay, but want to know if they are cheap crap or not. Here are some URl's if you want to check them out. Thanks

any header that has the o2 sensor picking up signals from one cylinder only stay away from. I would get a s/s or chrome one as it will keep rust away. But I don't like either of those.
i went with the kamikaze header.............. it definitely is not the best but its hella better than the ractive and the bullshit u see on ebay............ it also isnt priced tooo bad. look em up. i hear alot of ppl that are using nitrous and blowers like the kamikaze because of its 3" downpipe...... but im currently using it for NA with nitrous in the future........

So how exactly should i go about picking one out? What does the 4-2-1 mean etc? Any more info would help greatly, i dont know too much about picking a header out. Thanks =] Also, why did you not like the ones on ebay? Im assuming its cause their crap, but why? If you tell me, it will help me seperate crap from good stuff =] Thanks!
Not all the ones on e-bay are crap. I have seen some that are actually pretty nice. Look for a company called S&S auto chrome. Theirs seem to be made well and they're made outta stainless. For the price they are not to bad
how hard is it to find a header made specifically for the zc?
but if i do go aftermarket, do i buy a header for 88-91 crx or 92-95civic?

4-2-1 means that the header goes from the 4 pipes coming out of the engine merge into 2 then into 1.
4-1 goes directly from 4 pipes into 1 pipe
get a dc sports header.. they are one of the best..

I have a header from ebay that was manufactured by them; it's 1/2 way decent - it served it's purpose for the time, but i will be getting a better one soon. i definatly noticed gains with it, but I'm sure there are more gains to be had with a nicer piece

yeah I had a friend that bought on and it looked decent. I ordered one for the zc to run it untill I was done with my turbo. It worked good and I wasn't out a lot of cash when the turbo was done. BTW just order one for a crx it should fit. you might need to grind the ports some but the S&S one cleard nicely
I have a Chikara Header. It was only $120 and its a 4-2-1. My only issue with it is the finish on it is ****, so if you get one spray it with some high temp paint before you put it on.

I wont need to get a smaller radiator if i get a header tho correct? Because ive seen people with like half sized radiators, thats just because they want them correct? Are those radiators actually as good with cooling as full sized?
you shouldn't need a half sized radiator. Usually that's just for turbo's and then sometimes you will still have enough room. You should not need to change your radiator. But you may need to ditch the ac fan

I just bought a header with 2 o2 sensor ports, now im wondering, on my car there is only one o2 sensor, how do i hook another one up? Or do i not? Also, i can either put it on the side near the top of the header, or the other outlet is near the bottom end of the header.

We're not talking porting like anything difficult. Just take the header gasket off of the motor, lay it on the new header, see the differences, then grind away the extra material. If its really close, on a basically stock motor, it isn't even going to make a noticable difference. I've done a few using only a dremel and it took about 20 minutes. You could probably do it with a power drill and one of those rough tear drop shaped bits (look for die grinder bits if they aren't in the drill bit section).

I can't remember. Most headers have openings that are not exact cut. They're rounded out, so you can just round it out a little more. If the header you buy is anything like mine, you'll see that there is nothing to worry about. Way back when I did mine I hadn't done much of anything on a car and had never used a dremel in my life and I had no problem.
