Default Summit Point 6/21-6/22 Pictures/Recap

First of all, I had a blast, it was great to finally get out there.

The hatch proved quite worthy, needs some shocks (was bouncing around on the rough corners), maybe some better pads (began to fade), and some better tires (Kumho 711s @ $36/ea don't grip all that well). Got the car weighed, 2268 with me in it, full interior and about 8 gallons of gas.

On my end I think I did a decent job, found the line pretty early (being on the track 1000 times before definately helped), I need to compress my brake zones, eliminate a few brake taps (could have hit 10 a little faster I think), grow some ***** to go 7-8-9 flat out consistently (more grip would have helped), and lastly I need to sign-up for VIR

RJ is a great instructor, great communication, knew the track, I recommend him to anyone heading out to SP for HPDE w/ NASA.

Good to see that you've been devirginized of driving the track...

Albeit Saturday evening's monsoon, I think everyone had a good time.

Yes, I was in the JDM front-ended R. Sorry I held you up a bit in the 2nd session on Sunday...

Nah, no holding up was done, I felt everyone was good with passing for the most part. Was it your first event?

Passing for me was kinda funny because I'd really be on people 3-10 but then when they'd give me the pass coming out of 10 I didn't have enough power to get around em on the straight

Bleargh. I hate it when the high horsepower cars don't lift when they give you the point by. Makes it a tad fustrating at times.

It wasn't even only HP cars, I just have very little top-end power (stock b18b).

a lot of passing is easily done by setting up the pass from the beginning, if you know that you are going to get a pass signal don't ride someone's *** out of the corner, back off and get a hell of a run out of the corner before the passing zone

you will have more speed and usually be able to keep it with properly executed pass signals, otherwise be patient, you are not there to be the fastest one, you are there to be the smoothest and safest person learning fundamentals

You didn't seem to have much trouble making passes. I instructed a Mustang for the final HPDE1 session since you left for home. Interesting change from a Type R.

When we did get the point by, it wasn't too difficult at all. Had a great time at Summit. I was just recalling an event at Lime Rock and some high powered machines that gave me the point by and didn't lift.

We actually didn't leave till the 3rd session of HPDE1 was over. I just wasn't feeling up to driving the last session because of this darn cold. Some of the guys went out for the last session and I just took a little breather/rest before we headed out.

Nice meeting you @ Summit.

Not to criticize anyone, but that cavalier guy had a big problem with lifting for passing. I could get by him, but not without some effort. That was my third event, first was ITR Expo 03, 2nd was a FATT in May. RJ, being an instructor you would know, how do we know if we move up or not? I was "recommended" to move up, but how can I be sure for when I sign up for the next event?

I agree. I noticed he wouldn't lift much as well. Could be that he figured "hey i only have 120hp, they should be able to get by me" but I guess he didn't realize some of us don't have much more than that...

The new procedure is that registration determines your group according to the evaluation that the instructor filled out in your passport. If you got mostly 1s with a few 2s then you will most likely move up.

one comment on the trains, HPDE 1 did a good job for the most part with the trains. HPDE 2 actually had worse trains on sunday.

That is assuming your instructor wasn't too lazy at the end of the day and actually filled it out.

Nothing against RJ, but make sure you have some instructors that you don't know prior to your event. I've had both and I've found that I learned completely different things from people I didn't know.

Almost forgot.... I nailed the settings on my car on Sunday and I feel like I had A LOT more car than I was using that day. Unfortunately the extremely soft settings I ran on Saturday really screwed my confidence level. I need more track time.

The one that nasa goes by (the sheet you gave me) was filled out and handed in. You should move up to gr00p two.
