Default Oil filter sandwich plates and filter relocation question

I've seen that many of you are using a spin-on adapter and running a remote oil filter when installing an oil cooler setup.

ex:

What are the disadvantages, if any, of running a sandwich plate and not relocating the oil filter.

ex:

The sandwich plate would cut down on the number of fittings and hoses required, thus saving money - while at the same time keeping the system as simple as possible and reducing the points of potential failure. The "convenience" of a remote filter is not an issue for me. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something.

As a side issue... the sandwich plate above is a mocal with a thermostat (which I don't need). They make the same plate with a temp sender port instead of the thermostat. Does anyone have this type of plate? and is there sufficient clearance to attach the sender? The port would be nice, but if I couldn't use it in the end, I could spend much less on a different plate.

After having seen the sandwich kit, I would recommend against it. Go for the remote. It's easier to change the filter this way too.

You don't need an oil thermostat.

For sure go with the remote mount and you may want to try using brass an fittings instead of the aluminum along with some high pressure rubber racing hose like aeroquip sells(just have to be a little more careful how you route it.

You might want to check out http://www.permacool.com as their mounts I think are a bit cheaper then the mocal.
