Bad auto-tensioners also in 4G H22?
I have read many topics about faulty auto tensioners of timing belt, but everytime it was in H22 engines in 5G Preludes. Are the tensioners faulty also in 4G Preludes (H22A2)?

Oh... are they ever. LOL
Um... yeah, I'd say it's a generic flaw with modded H22's. BTW... H22A1 not a2.

ah yes... I forgot about that european crap.
No horror stories?
How about this:
I've popped three on my car and replaced THREE sets of rather expensive SS valves because of it.
And the one on the Gumball car went bad in Texas and caused the entire motor to go to hell in shredded metalic pieces.
Those bad enough stories for you?

i feel for u bro. And for the creator of this thread go with manual tensioner (h23 you will not regret this) , if you need the part numbers for everything that you need pm me. Ill have to look at a schematic or we can go to majestic honda.com and I can tell you off sight. Good Luck everyone.

I wouldn't call those engines crap. They are exactly the same as USDM (I think ECU is a little bit diff).

Wow, it really sounds bad. You had to have 3 disasters to be convinced to manual tensioner? Should read H-T more carefuly
(j/k)
BTW what causes auto-tensioner to fail? Are there any symptoms of approaching disaster? Strange sounds or such? Does it happen suddenly?

your car will start to run like the timing is retarded like 20 degrees. Cause it is.
It'll be extremely sluggish, not want to run well, and in general will act like something is wrong.
As for the noise, if you have the timing covers off and the valve cover cut for cam gears, then you might be able to hear a flapping noise, or feel the lack of tension in the belt itself.

I have tha auto-tensioner issue in my mind. A week ago I have LMAs replaced so I checked all parts connected with timing (belts, tensioners, gears and so on...) and everything is OK (195kkm on tacho).

I have created a new thread so others can reply..... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=543947
Hey Todd.. remember we kept hearing the noise in my car at high RPM's while on the gumball? Think that could have had something to do with the Auto Tensioner?
And yes, this weekend I will be going to visit the car in Atlanta to take pictures of it before they start the rebuild.
/sigh
From what the shop has told me, its bad..
