"thunk" in the steering rack?
I get a very slight "thunk" feeling and noise when I turn the wheel back and forth. its most noticable when turning the wheel about 90 degrees one way, and then turning it the same amount the other way. I also notice it sometimes when turning into tight parking spots. At first I thought it was something loose in the front suspension, or maybe a rotor screw was missing and was loose, but I have checked everything and it doesnt appear to be that. I wouldnt even begin to know where to look if it was a steering rack problem. Anyone have similar problem? Any ideas?
Havn't tried it myself, but going to at some point on my brothers car..
If you look at the steering rack from underneith the car, there is a huge 40mm nut on the back side somewhat facing the firewall.
In the middle of that huge nut is a smaller nut, that I read is an adjustment nut.
If you loosen the 40mm, you can turn the other nut and tighten up the steering rack a bit and remove that thunking sound.

Thanks. I actually checked a Helms to see if I could do this myself, it says you need a special tool called a "locknut wrench" which is 40mm. Anyone know of any other methods or tools that can be used if you dont have that wrench tool?
