Micro subs existed before the W3 and W0 series (not to say they don't have those subs in later revisions). Back then, there was the W1, W4, W6, and IB4 lines. A few W5's were floating around too. This was also around the time that stealthboxes were first appearing, and JL started with the flexiport systems and the premade fiberglass baffles.
The 8.1 was ported, can't say I remember what the 8.3 was. I'm about 75% sure that the 8.1 was an 8W1, not a W6, as it presented a 4 ohm mono load.
The 8.1 was reviewed way back in the day (circa 1995) in Car Audio and Electronics. They stated that a pair of these guys would be close to car audio heaven.
It would be extremely easy to mimic one of those subs. Just go to your local home improvement center and get a cement form shaped in a cylinder. Cut out one half of it, and mount a few boards on it with some fiberglass reinforced filler, and there you go. This is a very popular design for home audio subs (called sonotubes). Just an idea if you want three 8's instead of the one larger sub - finding one of those subs is going to be difficult.
One of the better places to ask for one will be at carsound.com. There are far, far more industry people there who will have a better idea of where to track one down. A dealer may have one lying around that never sold, etc.

The Microsub I am looking for is an 8.3. There are 3 8w6's in it. I have found the 8.1's on ebay, etc., but I don't want this one. I was just wondering if anyone had one that I could buy from them. Maybe someone took theirs out and stepped up to some 12's....
I will check carsound.com. Thanks for the tip.
