Man is it really getting that bad...
Well recently I just got back from a little escapade from the beech. I took my 1993 CBR600F2 the whole 180mile 3hr trip to Ocean City, MD for a little 8 day "get-away". The first weekend I was there there was a car show going on and quite a few bikes. Hell when I first got there the first thing I did was go straight to Burger King because I was starving. As soon as I pull up there are 30+ sport bikes in the parking lot. Shot the **** for a little while and ended up heading back to the house for a few MGD's and relaxing. I was beat.
Well later on through out the week I ran into quite a few bikers there. I must say I was quite shocked. I don't know if it was the beech or the massive amount of gorgous ladies there or a combination of that two that with the overwhelming amount of swelling of the head syndrome and testostorone, but I must of saw over 50+ riders there (including my friend on a '00 ZX6R) and damnit there was only ONE yeah that's correct ONE who was wearing ANY sort of gear at all.
He was from PA and was riding a Red 998. He pulled up beside me on 2nd street and we rode a little while. Nice guy. Gorgous bike. As for the rest of these guys go, I'm not being nit pickey. It's not like they were wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. These guys are rocking shorts and cut-offs. I don't get it? Am I missing something? Is it like a rule when you are at the beach or what? I don't know. I didn't buy a bike to "look cool". All week no matter how nice it was, how hot it was I had full gear all weekend. Sure I bought some very nice easy breathing stuff, but just for that reason. Plus most had their girls riding in bikini's! Now I will admit that was a damn nice site, but the afterthought wasn't to pretty. I didn't ask or talk to any of these guys as to why. Maybe it's just me. Well that's it. All opinons welcome.

Its all personal preference. I don't wear my gear all that much... **** for the most part it sits and collects dust. I went down last year with a T on, sure i got some road rash and scars but really if your going up the street i would never suit up.
I went to the shore (45mins away) and i geared in my jeans, boots and text jacket because i knew i would seldom be under 100mph and close to 130 at all points, but if i ride close by like to a friends house or just to "cruise" i definatly just chill and only wear a T. Maybe its stupid but it makes me feel a lot more comfortable when i ride and in turn helps me maneuver a lot better when i don't have a big shoulder pad bulging out.

I feel the same way man. I used to try so hard and preach gear, but some just dont wanna. Not knocking them, but I've been down, and my gear saved me. One of my good friends is being stubborn, and usually rocks a t shirt and jeans. And he's been down
Only way I'm not in gear is when I go to school, 2 mins away, even then I should wear it. But yes, the majority does not have any gear. And by gear I mean, boots, jeans, jacket, and gloves

in my experience its a chicken strip parade at beaches except for the riders I roll through with. It's like running into the local parking lot car show by mistake. Just obnoxious and a bad situation.

well i went to myrtle beach, sc for vacation last week and let me tell you.
I am so meticulous about wearing my gear at home, but i rode in shorts and a T all week (no helmet either, that was stupid but it made it a lot easier to pick up chicks) the thing is that with the humidity and heat associated with being next to the ocean, it makes riding far to uncomfortable for me with all that chit piled on, sitting on a sweat box that is constantly at 225-230 F, it was killing me, also if you are over 21 you are not required to wear a helmet (im 22) which in its own stupid way it is viewed as a status symbol that you are old enough to purchase alcohol for all the 18-21 girls that are dying to get trashed and screw
nothing happened, i was careful, mostly crusing, there were no curvy roads; definately no stunting; and no speeding, all we did was tool around and hit on girls
it was actually nice for a few days but i would definately have gear if i lived there

yeah. see you answered your own questions right there.
it seems that bikes are sort of on an upward swing in popularity, at least from my perspective, so i expect more idiots that dont have a clue to be sporting around town on top of the latest and greatest machines with no clue how to ride.
