Do I Need To Upgrade My Fuel Pump For My Turbo Setup?
I just got a pieced together turbo kit. I will be running between 6-8psi on a D16z6. I will be using a 14b turbo, VAFC, 440 DSM injectors, and a HF Manifold. Do I need to upgrade my fuel pump for this setup?
c'mon peeps . . . some people say yeah i do need to, but some also say I don't . . . let me know what you think.
thanks for the info . . . . are you the one that has that AEM FPR for sale, and wanting to trade for the AEM Cold Air Intake?
For that setup you do not need to upgrade your fuel pump. Actually the stock fuel pump will probably be perfect. When you run the hack + 440cc injectors your fuel pressure barely exceeds that of the stock one. The fuel pressure is basicaly what it was before you went turbo.
You will start to run into problems if you have a hi output fuel pump with low power/boost settings. One problem is that your idle fuel pressure will be to high, cause the car to bog alot, and just not idle to great. Then you will have to spend more money on a REAL FPR, not that chop top POS B&M like I have that barely can control the flow of my Walbro 255lph. I already had to replace the bottom half of the FPR three times cause I am to cheap to get a real one lol.
But for those boost settings and your set up, the stock pump will be fine. The only way the stock pump wouldnt be fine is if its start to crap out and not working at its normal capacity. Just remember, if you run the hack your fuel pressure never really exceeds stock with the 440/450/460 or whatever size injector your running.
high fuel pressure = sucks
high idle fuel pressure = sucks even more

thanks a lot for that info . . . . . I got a ton of people telling me to upgrade my fuel system to be on the safe side so that I do provide my motor with enough fuel to prevent combustion. I have 144k on my motor so just want to go the safest route. Should I consider getting maybe a smaller output fuel pump like a 195lph, or just forget the Aftermarket pump all and all?

144k on the stock pump is alot of mileage especially when you start to put performance mods on it.
Your best bet is to figure out your goals and expectations for your setup. You can go with the 255lph low pressure version which would help out with the crazy high idle fuel pressure, but also would support less peak fuel pressure capacity.
Basicaly to run the high volume pump, you will need a very good regulator. Just add that into the cash equation if your looking to go that route. But if your on a budget and dont expect to go buck wild, the 195 or 255lph low pressure pumps should be fine.
Like i said if you want to run the hard core pump, just get a good fuel pressure regulator for that setup. You car will love you in the end

What does a FPR do? It's in the name, you can control fuel pressure... how can that be a bad thing? Upgrading the fuel pump from stock IS a good idea. All it is going to do is provide more fuel if it is required upto its' lph rating. I don't see where all of this " high fuel pressure sucks, high idle sucks more " ****. Don't adjust your fuel so high then!
, I think it's funny too though that you are running a 255 wal and regging it with a hacked stock regulator.... no wonder you've got these complaints. Do it right the first time... or the second or the third
