custom roll cage costs
For those of you who have custom roll cages in your racecars, would you please post how much it cost you? I can't say why right now, but it's somewhat important. Thanks!

Our CRX cage kit from KIRK Racing was about $700 shipped. Then I had to pay my fabricator to weld it into the car. Total came to over $1400, including some special work he did on it. The cost of a cage and install will depend on the amount of work required to prepare the cage for welding (cutting and bird mouthing the tubes, etc) and the amount of welding supplies used along with time.
So was it $1400 plus the $700, or $1400 total. My cage is already built, I just have an issue with the cost, and I need some benchmarking to go by. Thanks for the reply!

Racetech Fab in Portland normally charges $1200-$1500 for a IT 8-point cage with nascar door bars. Mine was slightly over $1000 since I did a lot of the finish work myself. He also didn't charge me for the three extra bars I wanted. RaceTech Fab gets a

Add another east-coaster w/ Mitch Piper's handiwork. The cage itself was about $2K. When you add in window net mounting and custom seat mount fab it goes up a bit more.
And this is the 3rd car of mine Mitch has had in the past year....
Everybody repeat after me...... OUCH!!!

Ditto. Though I found someone who really put it in as more of a favor. Seatback brace included. I am quite pleased with the construction and design, though I miss my glovebox.
I traded an old laptop for a seat mount, too.
Ah, at this rate, I'll have a rolling, running racecar for less than 5k by, oh, 2010...

Well if you'd quit stuffing 'em

My good friend got his EG cage, 6pt, cross X's at doors (no nascar db), "X" back, through the dash design cage for a respected builder here in Toronto named Ronnie
very tight fit.
$1600 CAD, roughly $1100 USD all in, painted too.
Let me see if I can dig up some pics...

Youre looking at a wide range, but for a well known, established fabricator on the east coast... About $1700 for just an 8 point cage. Then start adding $$$ for goodies like seat mounts, window net mounts, and seat back braces and youre at about $2K. This is for DOM tubing and is pretty much the price range for Delta Group, Kirk, Robinson, and Piper.
The KIRK cage I bought in kit form is an 8-point model with NASCAR style driver's door bars. There is a lot of prep work required to put one in so I will agree that $2000 is not unreasonable. In our case the windshield was out while we reskinned the roof. I was estimating the $1400 total based on the time required along with additional materials (net kit and a few other things) and welding supplies. The actual bill for the welding supplies came to over $125. These costs are in addition to the cage proper. Each of us will have a variation on the numbers-but I'll suggest that budgeting $2000 is a good idea for any custom install.
