Honda s600, is the D series possible?
Hey guys, I have a question so I thought I'd post it here. The old Honda s600, does anyone know if a D series is able to fit under the hood? I'm thinking I'll need motor mounts for sure, but not sure of what else. 1500lb car would really move with a turbo'd D under the hood. I'm not sure if this is a project that's worth undertaking or not. It would take some time, but besides motor mounts im not sure what else I KNOW I would need. Any information would be appreciated, thanks
Matt

I was thinking that, i'm not quite sure. I know they aren't all rear wheel drive. I'm not sure if its the Sedan, Roadster or Coupe. Also was looking at the S800 which is very similiar.
I thought about that too (I think it was s600's...it might of been some other one) but they were older than 73, so no smog. Two of them for 600. But they were TINY. I figured it would be damn near impossible to fit a d series and tranny in there.
I could be wrong, but I think youre talking about the N600.
I don't think the S600, which was a 2 seat convertible, was ever imported to the US. I have to find out in my honda history books.
If, it's the N600 you are talking about they were TINY, about 1/2 the size of a mid 70's civic, and they had two or three cylinder AIR-COOLED motorcycle engines making like 40-50 horsepower. And, they were front wheel drive. I'm not sure but I think it would be impossible to put a D series engine in one. Although, with enough time, money and motivation you could put
an aircraft engine in a submarine.

Just checked an old honda book I have:
It was the N600 there was no N800. It was a little smaller than the original Mini Cooper made in the 60's.
First imported 1969 as a 1970 model, made until 1972.
about 30,000-35,000 sold in the US in 4 years.
Front wheel drive.
598 cc SOHC Air cooled twin. 45 HP@7000
78 in. wheelbase.
The S600 and S800 are fairly rare according to my honda book,
There were only about 13,000 S600's produced for the entire
WORLD in 1964-65. As a coupe and a 2 seat convt.
They were chain drive as well.
The S800 was a coupe and a 2 seat convt. as well.
they were not chain drive and, the were made between 1966-70.
Honda made about 12,000 of them for the entire WORLD.

Hey thanks for the info, yea I've been looking around a lot latly. The S500, S600 and S800 are all RWD. I think the Honda N600 would be best, it was FWD. Heres a little history, the first Hondas in America sold for about $1 per pound. They were $1,300 brand new. I've heard that there was an old Honda, in the 70's that a B series motor would fit in. I'm still trying to figure that out. I figure a a N600 might be able to hold a SOHC. With that small ammount of weight, 200hp would really get that thing to scoot. I'm still not going to give up, I know there has to be some restorer in his Garage in the moutains of West Virginia producing D series motor mounts for the 1970 Honda N600! Still looking for more information. One of these little cars with a full roll cage, gutted, racing seats and 5 point harnesses would look very mean
Most of the car would probaly have to be custom fabricated most likly.

It would be like putting a Ford V-8 in a Sunbeam and calling it a"Tiger"
Or, like putting a Carroll Shelby prepped small block Ford V-8 in a small
british roadster and calling it a "Cobra".
Oh wait, somebody did those already, LOL
I give you props for trying it, but I don't think it's feasible.
w/o spending Thousands of $$$ and lots of fabrication work.
Sorta like the Grass Roots Motorsports mag., RX-7 rotary engine into a Triumph Spitfire sawp.
Remember the N600 was an AIR-COOLED 2 cylinder.
But let everyone here know how far you get, it could be interesting.
